The Final Round of the Trofeo Maserati in Mugello, Italy

Sunday night is when we’ll know the name of the winner or winners of the 2010 Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC. The seventh and last round of the Maserati championship is scheduled on 10 October in the Mugello, Italy, racetrack after rounds in the prestigious circuits of Monza, Zolder, Brands Hatch, Brno, Oschersleben and Valencia.

It will definitely be an exciting race since Pietro Zumerle, currently on top of the Trofeo driver’s classification with his 89 points, has only a three-point advantage over his closest contenders, the Goldstein/Sundberg duo. The spotlight will mainly be on these two teams, but it will also shine on Paolo Necchi (third with 64 points), Sergio Rota (55), Gaetano Ardagna Perez and Emanuele Smurra (49), contending for the last available spot in the final podium.

The GT4 classification winner will also be revealed in Mugello. Frenchman Jonathan Sicart should be able to crown himself GT4 classification champion. The top team in the Team classification is Kessel Racing.

From among the over 25 participating teams (with drivers representing ten countries), there is the return of Niek Hommerson – winner of one race in Zolder – and the presence of Andrea Bertolini (not included in the classification), who is currently racing in the FIA GT1 World Championship in a Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati MC12. Three rounds from the end of that championship, he is leading the Driver’s Classification along with team-mate Michael Bartels.

The media car will be driven by Alberto Sabbatini, editor of Autosprint, with Luigi Moccia. Among those driving GT4s, there are Ronnie Kessel and Peter Wyss (Swiss magazine Automobile Revue writer). Cedric Sbirrazzuoli from Monte Carlo, who took Af Corse’s Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 to debut in Spa in last year’s GT4 European Cup, will also be there.

Eurosport will broadcast highlights of the Maserati championship on Sunday evening, October 10 within the Motorsports Weekend show (6:45pm GMT), in addition to airing an in-depth summary of the two races on Thursday, 14 October on Eurosport 2 from 5pm to 5:30pm GMT.

In addition, Nuvolari TV will broadcast the two Sunday (10 October) races in real time (from 9.00 am to 9:40 am GMT and from 3:10 pm to 3:50 pm GMT).

Qualifying practices: Saturday from 8:05 am to 8:25 am and from 11:05 am to 11:25 am GMT
Races: Sunday from 9:00 am to 9:40 am and from 3:10 pm to 3:50 pm GMT
