BRITS ARE ONLY WILLING TO DRIVE 35 MILES TO WORK - BUT WOULD DRIVE 135 MILES FOR A STAYCATION

PEUGEOT research has revealed how far Brits are prepared to drive for different activities – with a stark contrast in willingness to travel long distance for work compared with leisure pursuits.
The survey of 2,000 UK drivers found that the average distance people are prepared to drive for work is 35 miles – with over a third (36%) not prepared to drive more than 20 miles. Similarly, parents would not be willing to drive more than 28 miles for the school run.
In contrast, for more pleasurable activities, Brits are willing to travel further. For a night away from the kids, they are willing to drive an average of 73 miles; for a concert, sports game, or other leisure activity, this increases to 80 miles, and for a weekend or staycation, they’re happy to travel an average of 135 miles.
When it comes to seeing loved ones, Brits would drive an average of 123 miles to see their partner and 131 miles to see their parents.
According to the study, 44% of people use their car every day, and 41% drive their car most often to work, with the average one-way commute being 17.5 miles. The supermarket is the second most common destination (25%) with an average journey length of just five miles.
On average, Brits consider anything over 151 miles a long car journey, although over a quarter (28%) think anywhere between 50-100 miles is a long drive. In fact, the majority (42%) only drive long distance (more than 100 miles) a few times per year, with as little as 4% doing so a few times per week. British drivers’ average total weekly mileage is just 104 miles – well within the range of electric vehicles such as the PEUGEOT E-3008, which can travel up to 435 miles on a single charge (WLTP).
Nicola Dobson, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, said: “At PEUGEOT, we believe that pleasure and driving are inextricably linked, which aligns with our research that shows most Brits are willing to drive further for fun and pleasurable activities. The E-3008 and E-5008 are designed with long journeys in mind: comfortable and efficient, the Long Range models have the added benefit of reaching over 400 miles on a single charge, far surpassing the average miles driven by most Brits.”
When asked for their attitudes to long distance driving, over half (54%) admitted they avoid long car journeys as much as possible. The reasons for this avoidance vary, but the most common are that they are too tiring (55%), the cost of having to refuel or recharge is too much (34%), it’s too much effort (33%), and that drivers lack confidence (24%).
Unsurprisingly, then, when asked what they consider to be the most important features during a long car journey, over half (53%) stated driving range as the top priority. Satellite navigation (43%) and a spacious interior (33%) were also considered crucial for long distance driving.
PEUGEOT’s E-3008 and E-5008 Long Range models, available in Allure, GT & GT Premium trims, are the ideal vehicles for long car journeys. The E-3008 Long Range, featuring a 230hp powertrain and a 97kWh usable battery, can travel up to 435 miles (WLTP) on a single charge, while the E-5008 Long Range achieves up to 414 miles (WLTP), allowing for more efficient and stress-free journeys with fewer charging stops.
Tech and innovation are at the heart of PEUGEOT’s vehicles, with the E-3008 and E-5008 models boasting highly advanced features, such as the ChatGPT®-integrated i-Connect Advanced infotainment system. Additionally, over 40 driving aids, including Adaptive Cruise Control in the GT trims, serve to elevate and simplify the driving experience. The E-3008 and E-5008 GT trims also have PEUGEOT Connected 3D Navigation with real time traffic and charging stations, ideal for those lacking confidence on long car journeys.
Committed to driving pleasure, PEUGEOT’s E-3008 and E-5008 provide generous space, optimal comfort, and enhanced practicality. Spaciousness is taken to a new level with the E-5008, which features seven seats as standard. The feeling of well-being is amplified with a heated steering wheel and heated front seats, available in the GT trims of both vehicles.
The E-3008 Long Range starts from £48,760 (OTR MRRP) and the E-5008 Long Range from £51,260 (OTR MRRP).
