The Leapmotor B05 marks a new milestone for the brand, further expanding its European electric vehicle lineup with an electric hatchback. B05 EV Exterior Design

The Leapmotor B05 is a mid-sized hatchback that’s been designed with a truly desirable design and a dynamic driving experience. With its purposefully wide stance and sleek coupe-inspired silhouette, the B05 offers a strong visual identity, redefining expectations of accessible innovation, contemporary style, versatility, and advanced technology.

The B05 sits comfortably in the C-segment hatchback class, measuring 4,430mm in length, 1,880mm in width and 1,520mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2,735mm. It makes the B05 the perfect size for multi-person use, with an interior roomy enough for trips away with family or friends thanks to 1,448mm of interior shoulder width.

The front of the B05 fully expresses the car’s character, with a powerful stance and pure, undiluted lines. The bonnet features a tautly sculpted design complete with sharp character lines that underline the B05’s dynamic character, while the incredibly slimline LED automatic headlights feature the latest evolution of Leapmotor’s ‘Wing Star’ lighting signature.

Viewed in profile, the B05 features strong coupe styling cues that are accentuated by its heavily sculpted flanks that emphasise movement and strength. Standard flush-fitting door handles seamlessly integrate with the car body, enhancing modernity and convenience. All B05 models feature distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels with a sleek aerodynamic design that highlight the car’s performance and style.

A key design feature is the frameless doors, which eliminate the need for traditional window surrounds. Instead, the door glass directly integrates with the roof and body structure, creating a clean and uncluttered aesthetic that’s unique for the B05’s segment.

At the rear, the sleek and harmonious design is accentuated by a full-width ‘Wing Star’ LED light signature that enlarges the vehicle and gives it a striking visual presence. The taillight’s sloping and streamlined design adds a refined aesthetic, while the lower diffuser brings a sense of motion and dynamism to the overall design, enhancing the B05 EV’s youthful and dynamic appeal.

Five exterior paint finishes are available, including the eye-catching solid Lightning Yellow. The other metallic colours include Starry Night Blue, Windy Grey, Metallic Black, and Galaxy Silver.

All the colours are complemented by the B05’s gloss black trim inserts for the front grille, lower sills, window surrounds and door mirror housings. For the interior, there’s a stylish Light Grey theme as standard, with Shadow Grey available as a no-cost option.

Aerodynamic efficiency

Through its streamlined silhouette and optimised front-end design, the B05 achieves

a class-leading aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.26. Not only does this figure help enhance efficiency for an even greater electric range, but the smoother airflow also results in excellent high-speed refinement.

To achieve such a strong aerodynamic figure, the B05 features several specially designed features. The bonnet has been carefully sculpted to ensure optimised airflow over the rest of the car, while air curtains in the front bumper reduce turbulence and help direct air around the front wheels.

Additional features include an active front grille shutter that can be opened to enhance cooling to the battery pack, or closed for an even cleaner flow of air over the B05’s nose. Furthermore, the standard 19-inch alloy wheels have an specific design that reduces aerodynamic turbulence.

BO5 Interior Design

The B05’s dynamic exterior design is matched by the interior’s style, space, and onboard storage. With clean lines, soft geometry, and a thoughtfully arranged layout, the B05 feels intuitive, harmonious, and effortlessly premium. The cabin is also bright, spacious, and versatile, with the focal point of a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen and an 8.8-inch driver display.

A key feature is the 1.02-m² panoramic sunroof that floods the interior with natural light, enhancing both well-being and the driving experience. The sunshade, which keeps the interior cool in summer months, can also be controlled via the App. The laminated roof glass stops 99.75% of all UV rays.

The premium feel of the interior is enhanced by a standard 64-colour ambient lighting system and the use of a uniform matte metallic finish for all the decorative inserts, including the air vent surrounds, centre console trim, and the spokes of the two-tone sports steering wheel. Soft touch, padded materials are also used for the doors and armrests, further enhancing the comfort and refinement of the interior.

In addition, the eco-leather seats feature a seven-layer construction, combining exceptional comfort with sustainable materials that help to remove harmful gases and reduce odours – these have been independently certified by OEKO-TEX* as meeting its low emissions standards.

The front seats are both heated and electrically operated (6-way driver, 4-way passenger).  The steering wheel is also heated.  Customers can choose from either a stylish Light Grey theme as standard, with Shadow Grey available as a no-cost option, with each finish extending to the seats, door trims, centre console, and dashboard.

Automatic climate control is standard on the B05, helping ensure occupants are comfortable, regardless of the conditions outside. Also fitted is an efficient heat pump, which helps warm the interior by using heat from the battery that would otherwise be wasted. This system not only warms the cabin more quickly, but it also reduces the impact on the B05’s range as it requires far less energy than a standard heater.

Family-friendly practicality

As a result of Leapmotor’s Cell-to-Chassis technology, the B05 is very space-efficient. In fact, with a width across the rear seat of 1,488mm, it delivers class-leading shoulder room, along with generous headroom in the front and rear. Furthermore, the rear seat passengers benefit from an adjustable backrest with a rake of up to 27°, improving comfort on long journeys, while the front seats can be fully reclined to create a unique lounge-style space.

The B05 also has a large boot, which is perfect for users with young families, plus the rear seat has a 60/40 split fold function for enhanced flexibility. With the rear seats in place, the B05 has a total boot volume of 345 litres, which expands to 1,400 litres with the seats folded.

For added practicality, there are 25 storage spaces throughout the vehicle, including in the centre console, door panels, seats, and boot, to meet various daily storage needs. Between the driver and front seat passenger is an elegant floating bridge-style centre console that incorporates a handy lidded centre armrest storage, two cupholders and an air-cooled wireless charging pad. 

Cutting Edge Powertrain Technology

The Leapmotor B05 is designed around the principle of technology that enhances everyday life. Built on the LEAP3.5 technology architecture, it achieves superior integration and optimisation of software and hardware.

Featuring a similar next-generation electric drive system already seen on the B10 SUV, it uses a special oil cooling system to regulate temperature, even at higher-speed driving, to be more efficient, increase longevity and improve smoothness of operation. The motor is both lightweight (around 60kg in total) and is 94% efficient, which means less energy is wasted during everyday driving.

The motor is mounted at the rear, driving the rear wheels through an integrated single-speed transmission that allows drivers to enjoy smooth, silent performance, instant torque, and seamless acceleration without gear shifts.

An AI-integrated battery thermal management system ensures that the battery always remains in optimal working conditions while optimising thermal management and energy consumption, so that more power can be used for propulsion.

The system monitors battery status in all working conditions, predicts potential safety hazards, and responds in advance, improving safety. It provides users with a long-life, high-efficiency, and high-safety power battery system.

At the heart of the B05 is a state-of-the-art 67.1kWh (usable) battery that offers a WLTP range of up to 300 miles and powers the rear-mounted motor that delivers 215hp and 240Nm of torque for a 0-62mph time of just 6.7 seconds, and a 106mph top speed.

Advanced Chassis Technology and Launch Control

Developed in close collaboration with Stellantis’ global chassis experts, the B05 has been specifically tuned to meet the demands of European roads, delivering dynamic performance and refined comfort that makes every journey enjoyable.

Unlike many competitors, the B05 features a rear-wheel drive architecture that promotes stable, precise, and confidence-inspiring handling. Weight distribution is an almost perfect 50:50, which further enhances the B05’s cornering poise while also helping deliver a controlled and comfortable ride.

The B05 uses a McPherson front suspension set-up and an innovative integrated rear multi-link arrangement that incorporates the rear motor to save weight (19% reduction) compared to traditional independent suspension. With no complicated transmission for the front wheels, the B05 also features a tight turning circle of 10.34m for exceptional low-speed manoeuvrability.

The B05 offers three distinct driving modes, accessed through the main infotainment screen, which have been designed to ensure the car always matches the road conditions or the driver’s mood

• Comfort: Smooth and gentle acceleration, strong energy regeneration, and soft steering for a relaxed and efficient ride.
• Standard: Balanced acceleration, light regenerative braking, and a comfortable steering setup - ideal for everyday driving.
• Sport: Dynamic acceleration, strong energy regeneration, and a firm, responsive steering feel for a more engaging drive.

In addition, the B05’s performance is further highlighted with a Launch Control function. A high-performance driving feature that allows users to access maximum acceleration from a standstill, enhancing both driving pleasure and confidence.

Adding an extra layer of excitement is a unique instrument graphic animation that appears when launch control is engaged. Showing an image of the B05 accelerating away from standstill, it highlights the car’s performance potential and reminds the driver that the system is operational.

Cell-to-Chassis technology

Like the Leapmotor B10 and C10 SUVs, the B05 has been engineered with the brand’s innovative Cell-to-Chassis technology (CTC2.0+), which integrates the car’s 67.1kWh battery into the structure of the vehicle. This results in reduced weight and a 13% increase in volumetric energy density, meaning more power in less space and extra room for passengers. This advanced battery system introduces a new level of integration and intelligence.

Cell-to-Chassis is an integral part of the state-of-the-art centralised electronic and electrical architecture. With its innovative ‘Four-Leaf Clover’ design, it delivers the perfect balance and greatest efficiency between all the main components.

Part of the brand’s ‘full-stack development’, it allows Leapmotor to build essential vehicle systems, such as powertrain, intelligent driving, and cockpit systems, from the ground up, enabling complete in-house development of both software and hardware.

With the use of high-strength steel for nearly 78% of its technology, the B05 delivers exceptional torsional rigidity of 34,500 Nm/ °. As a result, the B05 offers exceptional safety and impact resistance, while also providing even more precise handling and ride comfort. Furthermore, by making the battery part of the floor structure, engineers have been able to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible for superior stability.

Fast Charging

From the outset, the B05’s battery has been designed to charge quickly, so you spend less time plugged in and more enjoying its dynamic performance on the road. With the ability to fast charge at 400A and with a maximum charging speed of 174kW (DC), the battery can be replenished from 30% to 80% capacity in as little as 17 minutes.

Reliability in all conditions was a key development target, and as a result, the battery delivers strong charging performance even in cold temperatures. The B05 uses an intelligent thermal management system that keeps the battery within its optimal temperature range to maximise performance, efficiency, and durability. The system monitors the battery status continuously and adjusts cooling or heating when needed.

Infotainment Featuring Leap OS 4.0 Plus

The B05 is the latest Leapmotor model to feature the brand’s cutting-edge LEAP OS 4.0 Plus system, providing a customisable interface, immersive 3D cockpit, and multi-application display. This includes smart features such as multi-scenario modes and full remote control via the Leapmotor mobile app.

Housed in the intuitive 14.6-inch centrally-mounted infotainment system, it offers true smartphone-like smoothness. It also provides users with seamless access to features such as Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, Smart Voice Assistant, plus online navigation with real-time traffic and charging station information. As standard, it also comes pre-installed with apps such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, YouTube, and TikTok.

Using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip with efficient low-power memory technology, it offers an experience that’s comparable to high-end smartphones. The system features advanced 7nm technology and has up to 16GB of memory, which allows it to run multiple applications smoothly and receive firmware updates over-the-air (OTA). Furthermore, the integrated Adreno 640 GPU supports high-resolution displays and complex graphics.

Thanks to its Flexible System Framework, the display can effortlessly switch between full screen and split-screen modes, while the Multi-Application Display allows the simultaneous display and operation of two applications, meaning the diverse needs of both the driver and passenger can easily be met. It’s also possible to customise the desktop background, enable scene-based interactions and even change the colour of the virtual car depiction to match the real thing.

One of the many features is multi-scenario mode, which offers users greatly improved convenience during daily use, such as when camping, parked at the roadside or needing vehicle monitoring. As standard, it has several useful modes, including:

• Guard / Pet Mode: When this function is active, the air conditioner will continue to operate for a defined time after the user leaves and locks the vehicle, helping to maintain a relatively comfortable environment for any people or pets remaining inside.
• Camping Mode: After this function is activated, the air conditioner can remain active. If rain is detected, the windows can be closed automatically.
• Cleaning Mode: Turning on the cleaning mode will turn off automatic locking when leaving the car, close the windows, tailgate, and switch air conditioning to internal circulation to meet your car cleaning needs.
• Vehicle-off Power Supply Mode: Keeps the vehicle unlocked and powered on when the driver steps out briefly, maintaining a comfortable environment with active air conditioning and entertainment for passengers.

Powerful Audio

As standard, the B05 is fitted with a powerful and benchmarked 12-speaker audio system that has been entirely self-developed. Users can personalise the sound experience with customisable equaliser settings, while the Sound Effects Master Module unlocks professional-level custom tuning capabilities. There are also three Distinct Sound Fields that allow the audio to be tailored to specific areas of the interior - whole car, front row, and back row.

As far as mobile device connectivity is concerned, the B05 offers up to five charging locations throughout the vehicle: two in the front row (USB Type-A and Type-C) and two in the rear (USB Type-A and Type-C), in addition to the air-cooled fast-charging wireless 50W-charging pad between the front seats.

Leapmotor Connected Services

The B05 features a smart system for locking and unlocking the vehicle. By using the Leapmotor App on a smartphone, the car automatically locks and unlocks when in proximity, as well as offering a range of other functions. Once inside, there’s no need to use a key; simply type a chosen passcode into the infotainment when prompted, and the B05 is primed and ready to go. The car can also be operated just with the NFC card by placing the card on the driver’s mirror sensor to unlock/lock and on the wireless charging pad between the front seats to start.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Safety is taken to the next level with the B05 thanks to 21 driver assistance systems that allow Level 2 semi-autonomous driving. As standard, the car is equipped with 14 high-precision sensors and cameras, including four surround view cameras, four ultrasonic sensors, two front radars, two rear corner radars, a front view camera, and a driver fatigue monitoring camera.

• Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): Automatically controls acceleration and braking to maintain a safe distance to the car in front at speeds of between 18-99mph
• Lane Centring Control (LCC): This system actively provides steering inputs to keep the vehicle in the centre of the lane     
• Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): If the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane without the turn signal activated, the system intervenes by applying gentle steering assistance
• Front Collision Warning (FCW): Warns the driver with visual and audible alerts when distance to vehicle ahead becomes unsafe and a collision risk is detected
• Rear Collision Warning (RCW): Displays an alert and activates hazard lights if a collision risk is detected with a vehicle approaching from behind
• Doors Open Warning (DOW): Monitors other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians from the side and rear, alerting the driver in case of collision risk when opening a door.
• Hands Off Detection (HOD): Reminds the driver to hold the steering wheel while using features like lane keeping or adaptive cruise control
• Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB): While reversing, the system monitors approaching vehicles and alerts the driver with a warning sound, braking the car if needed
• Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA): Helps the driver stay aware of speed limits by recognising road signs and displaying speed limit information in real time
• Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning System (DDAW): Monitors the driver’s attention and issues a warning if signs of distraction or drowsiness are detected

For the B05, Leapmotor’s engineers have added new ADAS systems compared to the B10, thanks to the addition of another front sensor that also further improves the performance of the adaptive cruise control in poor visibility conditions. The new features include:

• Automatic Lane Change (ALC): When activated, initiating the turn signal the vehicle will automatically change lane depending on the driving environment.
• Front Vehicle Departure Warning (FVDW): Alerts the driver in stationary traffic when the vehicle in front starts to move off.
• Front Cross Traffic Alert and Breaking (FCTA/ FCTB): Monitors approaching vehicles when moving forwards out of a junction or parking space, alerting the driver with a warning if a collision is possible, and breaking if warning is not actioned.

The B05 also benefits from a comprehensive suite of passive safety technologies that deliver occupant protection through a combination of seven strategically placed airbags and advanced seat belt technology. Furthermore, the body has been engineered for maximum strength and stability, contributing to both safety and driving comfort.

High-strength steel is used throughout the vehicle structure, while the passenger area has a strong cage structure. This not only improves collision protection, but it also reduces weight, increases durability, and helps prevent corrosion over time.

B05 Line-up

The B05 sticks to Leapmotor’s ‘everything as standard’ philosophy with its single, generously specified trim level. As a result, every car gets 19-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable front seats (4-way for the passenger and 6-way for the driver), automatic air-conditioning, automatic LED headlights and taillights, and electrically operated heated and folding exterior mirrors, among a whole host of premium features.

The sleek exterior is available in five paint finishes, including the bold solid Lightning Yellow. Metallic colours include Starry Night Blue, Windy Grey, Metallic Black, and Galaxy Silver. For the interior, there’s a stylish Light Grey theme as standard, with Shadow Grey available as a no-cost option

The Leapmotor B05 will be available to order through Leapmotor UK’s 79-strong retail network from early July, with first customer deliveries expected from late July, and, like all Leapmotor models, it’s covered by a 4-year and 60,000-mile warranty. For the battery, extra peace of mind comes in the form of a separate eight-year and 100,000-mile warranty.
