Jeep® has launched a one-off concept, the Avenger Stargazer, a unique Avenger 4xe designed for exploring the night sky. This comes after research by Jeep found that Brits suffer from ‘cosmos confusion’ – with almost a third (32%) admitting their knowledge of the night sky is lacking and 33% saying they would struggle to recognise Orion's Belt.
Featuring all the equipment required to see the wonders of the night sky, including a smart telescope fitted into the sunroof, Avenger Stargazer offers the adventure and exploration synonymous with Jeep.
A custom-built, integrated cabinet fitted into the boot neatly houses the essential kit needed for a night exploring the cosmos; the telescope and mount, binoculars, red-light head-torches, touch-screen gloves and weatherproof clothing.
The Avenger Stargazer is the result of a collaboration between Jeep and DarkSky UK**, a non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the night sky. Together the collective aim is to encourage people to reduce their light pollution, get outdoors and enjoy the stars.
Coinciding with the beginning of the Geminid meteor shower, one of the last major meteor showers of 2025, the Avenger Stargazer is a demonstration of the passion of Jeep to explore the outdoors.
The one-off concept is revealed as Jeep announces a new trim on Avenger, Avenger Summit SkyView, building on Summit trim. Available on petrol manual and e-Hybrid variants, Summit SkyView adds a sunroof, navigation, hands-free tailgate and passive entry for all those who wish to use their car to explore the world around them. Avenger Summit SkyView will be open for orders in Q1 2026.
The Avenger Stargazer features an informative reflective wrap depicting parts of the night sky, including recognisable planets and constellations. On the left side of the concept car, Pleiades, the Milky Way and Saturn are depicted, while on the right, the Andromeda galaxy, Jupiter and Ursa Major can be found - Earth and the Moon feature on the bonnet.
The study by Jeep also uncovered that four in ten Brits are unable to identify the biggest planet (Jupiter), and a quarter are uncertain which planet has rings around it (Saturn). Despite a lack of knowledge of the cosmos, the results were not indicative of a lack of interest, with almost three quarters (73%) of Brits claiming they are interested in learning more about the night sky, and 58% saying they do stargaze.
One of the main barriers to stargazing can be light pollution. This is the human made alteration of outdoor light levels from those occurring naturally. As well as blocking our view of the stars, it also harms wildlife, affects our health and wastes energy. The interior lights of the car, and the head torches in Avenger Stargazer all produce red light, which is less intensive and harmful than white or yellow light.
Interestingly, the Jeep research also found that over half of Brits (53%) are not aware of how many Dark Sky Reserves, locations designated for stargazing, there are in the UK. In response to this, Jeep has created an easy to use, downloadable guide with DarkSky UK. Featuring hints, tips and information on stargazing, the guide also has astronomy themed puzzles for children and a map of the 21 Dark Sky Reserves in the UK where stargazing is at its best.
Kris Cholmondeley, Managing Director of Jeep UK, said, “At Jeep, outdoor exploration and freedom are at the heart of what we do. Through this collaboration, we hope to encourage people to get outside and to look up at the night sky, as well as take measures to reduce their light pollution. Moreover, working alongside DarkSky UK allows us to draw attention to Dark Sky Reserves, helping Brits to find their nearest designated stargazing location with our simple downloadable guide.”
The Avenger Stargazer has been photographed at one of the UK’s top Dark Sky Reserves, Kielder Forest in Northumberland, where the unique concept car was photographed in the early hours of the morning, in order to capture the night sky at its most stunning and emphasise the car’s luminescent livery.
Professor Nick Dunn, Director at DarkSky UK, said, “This important collaboration is a great way to encourage more people to explore the world around them and reconnect with the night sky. Our relationship with the stars is vital to human history and so we need to tackle light pollution so that everyone, wherever they are, can enjoy the wonder of the cosmos. This initiative with Jeep is a brilliant step towards raising awareness and helping bring the awe of our galaxies to future generations.”
Avenger 4xe is the latest hybrid offering from Jeep. Featuring a groundbreaking hybrid powertrain that combines hybrid efficiency with advanced all-wheel-drive capabilities, Avenger 4xe delivers top-tier performance and efficiency. With a total output of up to 136 HP and a max torque of 230 Nm, Avenger 4xe is built to face any and all challenges, whether off or on-road.
In addition to the standard Avenger 4xe features and design, modifications to the Avenger include a smart telescope mounted on the vehicle’s sunroof which can be controlled by a smart device from the comfort of inside the car, enabling stargazing from wherever your journey takes you. The Vaonis Vespera Pro Smart telescope is an advanced and innovative piece of equipment which revolutionises the stargazing experience. In addition to making the stars clearer, the Vaonis Vespera Pro also captures ultra-high-definition images, thanks to its 12.5 MP sensor and exclusive Live Panorama mode. The telescope also has a 1.6° x 1.6° field of view, a 16-limit magnitude, and 1.6 arcsec sampling. Controlled through the app, Singularity, alignment, focusing, and tracking are handled automatically.
Designed for every environment, Avenger is ready for the city streets, countryside roads or mountain trails, with everyday practicality and advanced technology. Avenger captures the authentic Jeep spirit - an expression of freedom and performance.
Top tips for reducing your light pollution footprint:
- Use light only when and where it is needed – always point it downwards
- Use motion sensors or timers instead of leaving lights on all night
- Shield your outdoor lights or angle them down – this keeps light from spilling into the sky
- Close blinds and curtains after dark – this stops light escaping outside
Top tips for stargazing and seeing the Geminid meteor shower
- Give your eyes time to adjust to the dark – ‘dark adaptation’ takes about half an hour, and you’ll be able to see lots more stars; use red light torches where possible as this affects your eyes less
- The best times to stargaze are on the days before, during and just after a new Moon – the Moon is not visible then, meaning its light doesn’t wash out the fainter stars
- Use the naked eye in addition to equipment – Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn are visible to the naked eye and you can distinguish planets from stars by seeing whether they ‘twinkle’
- Search for celestial events – events such as meteor showers and eclipses enhance the experience
- Avoid areas affected by light pollution as much as necessary – to find your nearest Dark Sky location and more information on stargazing, check out the handy guide from Jeep and DarkSky UK on the Jeep website
