FIAT AMBASSADOR GERAINT THOMAS TAKES TO THE STREETS

23 April 2012. Fiat Ambassador and 2008 Track Cycling Olympic Champion Geraint Thomas took some time out of his preparation for the summer Games to spend the day with Fiat in east London.

Fiat, the Official Vehicle Supplier to British Cycling, provides a range of Fiat cars to support both the Cycling and Para-cycling teams. As part of Geraint's partnership with Fiat he has been provided with a Fiat Punto to help with his travel for training and competitions.

Look Mum No Hands! a cycle café and bike workshop in east London, played host to Geraint Thomas and Fiat where Geraint cycled the streets, picked up his car, grabbed a coffee and ensured his bike was up to scratch ready to hit the road again.  

When asked about his preparations for this summer Geraint commented: "My preparations for this Olympics are very similar to 2008 in Beijing. There is definitely more pressure with it being on home turf but I'm feeling confident and can't wait to get on the track."

Fiat and British Cycling

In 2010 one of the biggest names in four-wheeled transport teamed up with one of the largest on two wheels - as Fiat became the official supplier to British Cycling, including the Great Britain Cycling and Para-Cycling Teams.

As part of the deal, which has been running for three years, Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd are the sole supplier of Fiat cars for British Cycling activities and programmes.

British Cycling, the internationally recognised governing body for cycling and cycle sport in the UK, and organisers of the Olympic medal-winning GB Cycling Team, have had the use of Fiat's stylish Bravo, Punto Evo, Special Edition GBT Punto, and the award-winning 500 city car.

The cars have been kept busy, as the organisation has national and regional representation, and oversees a wide variety of cycling disciplines including Road, Track, Mountain Biking, BMX, Cycle Speedway and Cycle Cross, requiring team cars and transport for event staff.

Fiat's blend of style, sportiness and environmental-friendliness fits perfectly with British Cycling's healthy, fun and competitive outlook, and this deal has presented Fiat with the opportunity to display its cars at many of British Cycling's events and activities.

Fiat and Geraint Thomas

Olympic champion cyclist and Team Sky star Geraint Thomas has been recruited, along with other GB riders, to front a campaign called 'Let's clear the air' that is to be launched jointly by Official Vehicle Supplier Fiat and British Cycling.

The campaign aims to improve relations between cyclists and motorists on the road. It is timed to run alongside the relaunch of the Fiat Punto. One model in the new range, the GBT, comes with a year's membership of British Cycling thrown in.
