COVENTRY, 23rd July, 2025 – Stellantis has partnered with STEMworks, a nonprofit education organisation, to bring hands-on STEM learning experiences to schools across the UK.
The initiative is designed to make Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) education more accessible, engaging, and inclusive for young students, encouraging them to imagine a future in these fields with confidence.
Through targeted workshops delivered by passionate educators, the programme focuses on three distinct groups: primary schools near Stellantis' sites in Coventry, and Ellesmere Port; secondary schools in the same regions where students are beginning to consider future education and career choices; and primary schools across Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, and Wiltshire with high proportions of Military Forces families. This is indicative of Stellantis UK’s support to the UK Government Defence Employer Recognition scheme where they have Gold Award Status.
Stellantis’ support has enabled STEMworks to launch an exciting LEGO® Robotics Lab featuring the LEGO®Spike Prime kit, where students build, code, and adapt robots to solve engineering challenges based on real-world scenarios. These workshops promote teamwork, computational thinking, and creative problem-solving.
Importantly, STEMworks consistently achieves equitable engagement between boys and girls across both primary and secondary schools. This balanced participation reflects the programme’s dedication to providing equal opportunities and fostering interest in STEM regardless of gender. That’s especially significant given that women currently make up just 25% of the UK’s STEM workforce, and only 15% of software developers and 21% of engineers are female.
Crucially, the partnership also fosters early career exploration. Stellantis ambassadors visit classrooms to share their professional journeys and highlight opportunities within STEM fields.
Louise Gardner Head of Inclusion, Belonging, Talent & Wellbeing, took part in one of the LEGO®Lab Robotics Workshops at Fairford Primary School, close to the RAF Fairford Military base.
Gardner said, “It was incredible to see how engaged all the children were during the sessions at Fairford School, from building the initial robot, to programming and coding them to move around the simulated STEMworks roadway.
Stellantis are supporting both Primary and Secondary schools in the area of STEM as well as supporting our Forces Families in the UK too, helping to bridge the skills gap and prepare the next generation of innovators”.
Rob Dorey, STEMworks Director of Business and Outreach said, “Children need to see what they can become, by introducing engineers from diverse backgrounds to young learners, we help break down barriers and open up possibilities”.
With the UK’s STEM skills shortage estimated to cost the economy £1.5 billion annually and nearly half of engineering and tech firms reporting recruitment challenges due to skills gaps, early intervention is more than just inspiring; it’s essential.
Each workshop is carefully aligned with the National Curriculum while incorporating real-life contexts and cross-curricular learning. Key Stage 2 students explore design, teamwork, and iteration as they create robotic solutions, while Key Stage 3 students engage in strategic thinking, evaluation, and collaborative problem-solving. As one teacher remarked, the programme offers “an excellent opportunity to connect learning, problem solving with real world scenarios. It was engaging fun! The children have loved it and learned a lot”
The partnership with STEMworks is part of a global initiative by Stellantis Philanthropy supporting grassroots educational projects in countries where the company operates, including the UK.
Stellantis Philanthropy is distinct from the company’s business operations in that it is purely philanthropic, focusing on creating opportunities and fostering hope. Its mission is to champion quality education for younger generations facing economic and social challenges. To achieve this, it establishes lasting partnerships with NGO experts to identify community needs and co-build educational projects, with the aim of making a difference in the lives of youth and communities, today and for generations to come.
