CITROËN UK MANAGING DIRECTOR EURIG DRUCE WINS TERRY DAVIES AUTOMOTIVE AWARD 2020

Citroën UK Managing Director, Eurig Druce, has been awarded the Terry Davies Automotive Award 2020, by the association of Welsh Motoring Writers.

Awarded at a Covid-secure ceremony at Citroën Retailer Drivers of Prestatyn in north Wales, Eurig was praised for the positive impression he has made during his first year as Managing Director of Citroën UK. Particular focus was given to his successful implementation of the 'Citroën Advance UK' three-year plan, as well as his roll-out of Citroën’s electrification strategy in the UK. The Welsh Motoring Writers were particularly keen to celebrate the 'Citroën Advance UK’ plan, which has helped the famous French brand stand out in the UK automotive marketplace during a period of rapid transformation.

First established in 2010, the Automotive Achievement Award has always been a recognition of personal or corporate excellence in the automotive sector. It was renamed the Terry Davies Automotive Award in 2017, in memory of the much-respected former Chairman of Welsh Motoring Writers. Previous recipients include Mazda Motors UK, the Welsh Automotive Forum and Ian Cameron, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chief Designer (1999-2012), and Honda UK.

A Welshman himself, hailing from Llanberis in Gwynedd, Eurig Druce was appointed Managing Director of Citroën UK in February 2020, after previously holding the position of Sales Director. Since his appointment, Eurig has been at the helm during the roll-out of the brand's electrification strategy, as well as paving the way for the introduction of all the latest models and the launch of the 'Citroën Advance UK' plan.

Simon Harris, Welsh Motoring Writers Chair, said: “Citroën is currently undergoing a transformation in its product line-up and strategy, and we are certain the results will speak for themselves as we emerge from successive periods of lockdown that have been tremendously challenging for the entire automotive industry. We know everyone at Citroën is passionate about the brand and its heritage, and will be working together to achieve success, but Eurig has been a driving force behind it and has had a real impact as Managing Director of the brand in the UK in a relatively short period."

Eurig Druce said: "As a proud Welshman, it gives me great pleasure to accept the 2020 Terry Davies Automotive Award from the association of Welsh Motoring Writers. However, this is not only my award. Everyone associated with the Citroën brand in the UK makes up ‘Team Citroën’ and we celebrate all our successes together. So on behalf of the entire Citroën family, across all four nations of the UK, a heartfelt thank you to Simon, Huw Thomas and all the members of the Welsh group for this recognition. You can expect to see even more from us in 2021, as we emerge energised from the pandemic, with the Advance UK plan delivering real benefits for our customers. Diolch yn fawr!”

The 'Citroën Advance UK' plan was first announced in October 2020, as an all-encompassing commercial initiative covering key areas of the business – including the introduction of a ‘Fair Pricing’ policy. This long-term and fundamental change to the UK business model saw list prices across the model range reduced to new fair and transparent levels. Other areas included a focus on new retailer appointments, establishing the online Citroën Store, range adjustments and a renewed focus on residual values.

New Citroën ë-C4 is the latest model introduced as part of the brand’s electrification strategy, which will see electrified variants of every model across the entire UK range by 2025. The 100% electric New ë-C4 features a 50kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 100kW (136hp) electric motor, capable of a WLTP-compliant range of up to 217 miles from a single charge. Citroën's growing electric offering also includes the new C5 Aircross SUV plug-in Hybrid, all-electric ë-SpaceTourer large MPV and ë-Dispatch medium van.

The Terry Davies Automotive Award 2020 was presented to Eurig alongside Tim Duffee of Darrian Cars, the recipient of the Welsh Motoring Writers Tom Pryce Memorial Trophy 2020. Based in west Wales, Darrian Cars has been producing track and rally cars since the 1960s, some of which have participated in the British GT Championship.
