Citroën’s award-winning Light Commercial Vehicle range has been recognised once again with a series of top accolades in the What Car? Van and Commercial Vehicle of the Year Awards 2022.

The ultimate ‘Van of the Year’ prize was won by the new, full-electric Citroën ë-Berlingo Van, which also picked up the ‘Electric Van – Best Overall’ trophy.

New ë-Berlingo Van is the latest addition to Citroën’s three-model, all-electric ë-LCV line-up, which is available to order now in the UK. As well as the compact ë-Berlingo Van, Citroën’s ë-LCV range also includes mid-size ë-Dispatch and large ë-Relay commercial vehicles.

Built with a 50kWh battery and a 100kw (136hp) electric motor, ë-Berlingo Van has a range of up to 171 miles (WLTP) and supports up to 100kW rapid charging – which means an 80% charge takes as little as 30 minutes. New ë-Berlingo Van features regenerative braking technology to extend the vehicle’s range and the driver can choose between three modes via a specific control on the centre console – Normal, Eco and Power.

Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, commented: “The ë-Berlingo has pushed open the door to electrification for both fleets and private users by setting new standards for practicality and range. It’s also comfortable, great to drive and offers favourable running costs over a diesel alternative.”

Citroën UK's most recently announced model – Ami Cargo Electric – also received high praise in the What Car? Van and Commercial Vehicle Awards, taking home the coveted ‘Best Innovation’ trophy. The ultra-compact, zero emissions Ami Cargo Electric is derived from the AMI passenger version, and is designed for fleet and business operators as a practical, ‘last mile’ delivery solution for use in urban areas.

Ami Cargo Electric features a 5.5kWh Lithium battery connected to a 6kW electric motor, for emissions-free access to delivery locations in the city. The vehicle can be fully charged in just three hours and is capable of 46 miles of range. With zero CO2 emissions, Ami Cargo Electric is exempt from Congestion and Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) charges.

Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, commented: “The Citroën Ami Cargo proves that simple concepts are very often the best. With its compact dimensions, zero-emissions running and handy 400 litres of storage space, Citroën has designed a vehicle that is perfectly suited for our increasingly congested and heavily regulated cities.”

Eurig Druce, Managing Director of Citroën UK, said: “I am incredibly pleased to hear the news that ë-Berlingo Van and Ami Cargo Electric have been recognised by the judges in this year’s What Car? Van and Commercial Vehicle of the Year Awards. Both vehicles mark important steps in our journey towards electrification for all. We are proud to be able to offer fleet and business customers zero emissions solutions right across out LCV range, allowing operators to run their services efficiently and more sustainably. I would like to extend my thanks to the What Car? Team – I can assure everyone there that we have much more to impress you with in the coming years with our growing range of electric vehicles”.

There was recognition too for Citroën’s impressive range of internal combustion LCVs, with Berlingo Van being named ‘Best for Practicality’ in the Small Van sector. Citroën Dispatch was recognised as ‘Best for Practicality’ in the Medium Van category. Not to be outdone, Citroën Relay made it a hat trick, also receiving a ‘Best for Practicality’ award, this time against the Large Van competition.
