New research by Citroën has found that one in two parents are concerned that their children do not get enough exercise, with over a third saying that time stops them from working out, rising to 45% in London.
Citroën surveyed 2,000 UK drivers on their exercising habits to uncover the issue that one in five parents find it hard to exercise specifically with their children, despite 91% of parents encouraging their children to exercise. As a result, Citroën has curated the Charge Up In 30 Guide, available to download from the Citroën website, with parents in mind, providing parents with the opportunity to maximise their spare time, finding a way to complete a workout in under 30 minutes, the same time it takes to charge the New ë-C3.
As part of its ongoing partnership with England Athletics, Citroën worked with British 5km Road Running Champion and Olympic 800m Finalist Alex Bell, and her coach Andrew Henderson, Head Coach, Leeds England Athletics Hub, to curate the guide.
Alex and Andrew have used their expertise to create a guide suitable to all ages and abilities. From training for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, to coaching grassroot talent, Alex and Andrew are well versed in providing a workout that fits into everyday life and for every member of the family.
From tricep dips on the edge of the boot, to press ups on the bonnet, the Charge Up In 30 Guide seamlessly integrates the car into your everyday workout, with exercises appropriate for the full body.
Over a fifth of 55 to 64 year olds surveyed don’t exercise at all, whilst only 22% could run between one and five minutes. Frequent exercise has many health benefits, with nearly half of respondents saying that improvements to their mental health after exercise was a motivator to do more. Citroën’s latest research also uncovered that 67% of parents exercise with their children, rising to 79% of parents between the age of 25 and 34.
The new research comes as part of Citroën’s partnership with England Athletics, the development body for grassroots running and athletics in England, as well as its official charity partner, the Personal Best Foundation, to encourage physical activity for children and young people across the country. Citroën’s work alongside England Athletics and Personal Best Foundation is creating more opportunities for children and young people to access and get involved in athletics early.
Greg Taylor, Managing Director Citroën UK, said: "Sometimes life can get in the way of hitting your fitness goals, but it’s important that we try to make the time to keep ourselves healthy. With a busy schedule, it can be hard to find the time, but sacrificing 30 minutes to exercise can make all the difference.
“Citroën is committed to supporting wellbeing for the whole family, and our latest research shows that time is a major barrier to exercise for parents and their children. The Charge Up In 30 Guide helps to overcome this barrier, offering a practical, family-friendly solution that fits into a less than 30 minute window, the time it takes to charge the New ë-C3.”
“With the help of Alex Bell and Andrew Henderson, we’ve designed a guide that turns the car into a tool for movement, not just mobility. This initiative, alongside our partnership with England Athletics and the Personal Best Foundation, reflects our mission to make both electric driving mobility and healthy living more accessible to all.”
Alex Bell, British 5km Road Running Champion and 800m Olympic Finalist, said: “Citroën is a brand that puts accessible movement for all at the forefront. As an athlete, I know how powerful exercise can be for both physical and mental wellbeing, and it’s been a joy to help create the Guide alongside Andrew Henderson and Citroën. Whether you’re training for a race or just trying to stay active with your kids, this guide shows that you don’t need a gym or hours of free time—just a bit of creativity and you can even use a car like the New ë-C3 to support your exercise plan.”
Chris Jones, CEO of England Athletics, said: “Supporting people to lead active lives is central to our vision at England Athletics. The Charge Up In 30 Guide, created in collaboration with our partners at Citroën, and one of our talented English athletes Alex Bell with her coach Andrew Henderson, reflects our commitment to encouraging more people to move more often."
"The Guide is a brilliant example of how innovation and sport can come together to inspire families to get active - whether at home, in the park, or even while charging their car.”
The Charge Up In 30 Guide has been designed to be completed in the time it takes to charge your car, which is 26 minutes for the ë-C3 from a 100kWh rapid charger from 20% to 80%. New ë-C3 features a 44kWh battery that provides up to 199 miles (WLTP combined cycle) of range. New ë-C3 Aircross is available with an 188-mile standard range (WLTP) or the Extended Range version offers up to 249 miles (WLTP) of range on a single charge.
New ë-C3 and ë-C3 Aircross also feature Citroën’s Advanced Comfort® technology, Advanced Comfort® suspension and Advanced Comfort® seats, providing maximum comfort to create a smooth and serene journey for all occupants.
Citroën is leading the way in making electric mobility accessible by offering the most electric vehicles under £35,000 of any manufacturer. Ami 100% ëlectric, New ë-C3, New ë-C3 Aircross, New ë-C4, New ë-C4 X, ë-Berlingo and New ë-C5 Aircross are all available for less than £35,000 and thanks to the Electric Car Grant, Citroën now offers an electric version of every passenger vehicle in its range for under £35,000.
