ALMOST HALF OF DRIVERS WOULD RATHER CLEAN THE HOUSE THAN DRIVE ON A POTHOLE-FILLED ROAD, FINDS CITROËN

New research from Citroën reveals that 88% of UK drivers cite potholes as the number one factor that makes a road miserable to drive on, with 83% believing councils need to spend more on maintenance. 41% said they would rather clean their house than drive on pothole-riddled roads. Comfort is the top priority for over half (52%) of Brits driving on miserable roads. The entire Citroën range is designed around onboard comfort, with all cars benefiting from patented Advanced Comfort® technology, including New C3.

New research from Citroën UK reveals the top factors that make driving on a road a miserable experience. Potholes (84%), road works (62%), and heavy traffic (59%), were uncovered as the top causes of a miserable road, while almost one-third (31%) of Brits avoid driving on motorways as much as possible.

The survey of 2,000 UK drivers named the M25 as the country’s most miserable road, with nearly one-fifth (19%) saying the capital ring road was their least favourite route to drive. Almost half of the respondents said they would rather do domestic chores, including cleaning the house (47%), doing the ironing (42%), and cleaning the toilet (39%), than drive on the M25.

Cleaning the house was cited as a preferred option to driving on roads with potholes and poor road surface by 41% of respondents. Over half (54%) said they would rather clean than make a long journey with a young child in the car, and a massive 83% of UK drivers think that their local council should be spending more on road maintenance.

According to the Citroën poll, over a third (35%) of drivers said that London was their least favourite area to drive in, with 77% of those blaming heavy traffic and congestion. Traffic was also found to be a major source of despair in the Midlands (70%), the Southeast (66%), and the Northwest of England (55%).

The research goes on to reveal how drivers try to make a journey on a miserable road more enjoyable. A comfortable ride came out as the top priority with 52% of drivers prioritising this, followed by having comfortable seats (47%). In-car tech was also uncovered as a valued feature for demanding journeys, with 27% of drivers relying on safety and driver assistance such as adaptive lane control and lane-keep assist to ease their journey. As well as this, just under a quarter (23%) of drivers named a satellite navigation system and low road noise (22%) as essential for a serene drive.
