SPIDER'S 24-VALVE HEART

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This week, (Thursday 5 April), a new version of the Alfa Romeo Spider goes on sale in the UK, powered by the Italian sporting car company’s revered 3.0 litre, 4 ohc, V6 24v engine that already powers the Alfa 166 and GTV.

Alfa’s 145 mph Spider 3.0 V6 24v, which joins the existing Spider 2.0 Twin Spark version – introduced to the UK in March 1996 – marries timeless glamour to one of the most responsive and charismatic engines on the market today.

With 218 bhp and 196 lb.ft of torque, Alfa’s 3.0 V6 propels the Alfa Spider firmly into the niche performance (over 170 bhp) convertible sports car segment. Since 1999 this sub-segment of the market – to which Audi TT, BMW Z3 and Mercedes SLK belong – has grown by over 50%.

Alfa Spider is currently built in small numbers at Pininfarina’s Grugliasco factory on the outskirts of Turin. Total Spider production since 1995 exceeds 30,000 units, with the UK market taking up around 10% of that with the 2.0 TS version.

Price of the new Alfa Spider 3.0 V6 24v is £26,043 on the road.
