“Monza – The Temple of Speed”, the fifth and final episode of the Beyond The Visible series takes viewers behind the scenes with the Alfa Romeo F1 team as they compete in the most popular motor racing contest in the world, is now available to stream on the Alfa Romeo YouTube channel and social media. The docuseries has thrilled motorsport fans and the curious alike for five episodes “Before we hit the ground”, “Trust is gained”, “The Hidden Backbone” and “Measuring the unmeasurable”.
Episode 5 is a tribute to the most iconic Formula 1 circuit, Monza, the spiritual home of Alfa Romeo. More than 100 years since it held its first race, Monza is now known as the ‘Temple of Speed’ and has been the setting of some the most memorable moments in the history of motorsport. At Monza, Alfa Romeo won the first Formula 1 title on 3 September, 1950, with the Alfetta 158 driven by Nino Farina. Since then, drivers such as Tazio Nuvolari, Juan Manuel Fangio and many others have contributed to the sporting prestige and heritage of Alfa Romeo.
Drivers who have had the opportunity to drive at Monza say that it is a different experience to all others. Fast and technical, it puts drivers’ skills to the test and it is extremely easy to make a costly mistake. However, Monza not only challenges a driver’s skills - the entire team of engineers and mechanics are also called on to overhaul the car’s configuration and setup. Analysis of the data and development is complex, and the resulting setup is carried out practically ad hoc. The aim is to put the driver in a position to express the best of himself on a track where the action never stops, where overtaking is possible at various points and where the speed goes up to the limit, alternating with intense braking.
The alchemy created between the performance on the tarmac and the emotions of the fans packed into the stands breathes life into the magic of the Monza Grand Prix. It is an unmissable, unique event. Monza is the living museum of Italian motorsport, where Alfa Romeo has written some of the greatest chapters in its history of noble Italian sportsmanship.
Cristiano Fiorio, Alfa Romeo F1 Manager: “‘Beyond the visible’ was an exciting adventure. The episode on Monza, our spiritual home, ended a very successful project. I'd like to thank the entire team who were all very professional while working on it. We’re delighted that we’ve managed to bring the F1 pits to people other than the experts in the field. What's next? The only thing I can say is: stay tuned!”
