Alfa Romeo at 1000 Miglia 2026

• The 44^th edition of the historical re-enactment of the 1000 Miglia officially started today with more than 400 priceless classic cars from 33 countries, visiting some of Italy’s most iconic and evocative locations
• Alfa Romeo has the strongest representation in the race with 50 cars, including the 1956 1900 Super Sprint from the Heritage Hub collection
• The event will also mark the dynamic debut of the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, an exclusive limited series of just 10 units – all already sold – created as part of the BOTTEGAFUORISERIE programme and the first creation as a result of the partnership with the Luna Rossa team

Today, Brescia marked the official start of the 44^th edition of the 1000 Miglia, the historical re-enactment of what Enzo Ferrari famously described as the “most beautiful race in the world” and will return there on 13 June after visiting some of Italy’s most evocative landscapes. Alfa Romeo will once again play a leading role in the event, reaffirming its status as the most represented brand in the race with no fewer than 50 cars lining up on the starting grid. Part race and part adventure, the 1000 Miglia is a regularity competition for classic cars that either competed in the original speed race or were produced in the same era, between 1927 and 1957. This year, more than 400 priceless classics from 33 countries will take part, competing across 144 time trials and eight timing checks.

Among the standout vehicles on this year’s edition is the 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint from the prestigious Heritage Hub collection, usually on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese. This priceless model will take part in the race alongside the official Alfa Romeo team, with support from the Alfa Romeo Classiche team. Behind the wheel will be an exceptional crew featuring members of the Italian band Subsonica, who share the Biscione brand’s values of style, innovation and courage.

The 1900 Super Sprint – a favorite of gentleman drivers in the 1950s – will be accompanied along the 1000 Miglia route by a fleet of current Alfa Romeo models, including the spectacular Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa. It makes its road debut, with only 10 units worldwide, all of which have already been sold. A tangible expression of the common thread linking the heritage of Alfa Romeo to the present,  it embodies that innate sporting spirit and high-performance DNA, translating into an engaging and visceral driving experience in everyday life.

Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint

The Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint is equipped with a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine (1,975 cc) featuring the brand’s signature twin camshaft with an output of 115 hp at 5,500 rpm, resulting in sporting performance that remains impressive to this day.

An elegant coupé with bodywork by Touring – the renowned Milanese coachbuilder founded in 1926 and celebrating its centenary this year – it embodies the ‘gran turismo’ class of the 20^th century, defined by the slogan that made it famous in the 1950s: “the family car that wins races”.

During that era, it was widespread practice for leading Italian designers to purchase a chassis from Alfa Romeo and complete it with bodywork designed and produced in-house. The most successful model was that of Touring in Milan, whose version of the Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint is still regarded as one of the most balanced and sophisticated coupés ever produced for the Biscione brand. Between 1955 to 1958, approximately 599 models were produced.

The unbreakable bond between Alfa Romeo and the 1000 Miglia

Between 1927 and 1957, the 1000 Miglia was a speed race, followed by an initial celebratory edition organised in partnership with Alfa Romeo in 1977. From 1982, it then became a regularity race reserved for models that had either competed in the original events or were produced during the same period.

At the second edition in 1928, Alfa Romeo won the individual and team rankings, with all its entered cars successfully finishing the race. On 1 April, 1928, Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi took victory with the 6C 1500 Super Sport - one of Vittorio Jano’s absolute masterpieces – distinguished by its innovative mechanical architecture and turbocharged fixed head design. The 1500 Super Sport covered the 1,005 miles of the route at an impressive average speed of 52mph, marking the first of 11 Alfa Romeo victories, including seven consecutive wins from 1932 to 1938 – an unbeaten record that continues to define the enduring bond between Alfa Romeo and the 1000 Miglia - two symbols of Made in Italy that shine on the world stage.

Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa

Developed within the BOTTEGAFUORISERIE, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa fully embodies its philosophy – to create unique, technologically advanced machines deeply rooted in Italian excellence – and is the first creation of the partnership between Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa, who will jointly face the challenge of the 38^th America's Cup in the iconic Bay of Naples.

In terms of aerodynamics, it is the most efficient Quadrifoglio model ever created. The new low-drag carbon fibre kit – comprising of front bumper appendages, underbody profiles, dedicated side skirts and a distinctive  rear wing – generates up to five times more downforce than the production version, ensuring exceptional stability at all speeds. At 186mph, it reaches a peak downforce of 140kg, with very high aerodynamic efficiency.

The exterior is finished in iridescent paint, inspired by the colours of the AC75 Luna Rossa boat that competed in the 37^th America's Cup in Barcelona in 2024. A two-tone colour scheme with the bonnet, roof and rear finished in black contrasted with grey bodywork, accentuate the sculpted lines, conveying a new expression of sporty elegance. The red Alfa Romeo logos symbolise passion and competitive spirit. Inside, Sparco seats are upholstered with textures and graphics inspired by the Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) used by the boat’s crew. The dashboard is a one-off piece, incorporating original material sourced from the sails, a detail that highlights the synergy with the world of water-based racing.
