Alfa Romeo has completed two further deliveries of the new 33 Stradale, including the first customer handover in Texas and another at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, close to the historic roots of Alfa Romeo in Italy.
The new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale represents the latest chapter in Alfa Rome history, combining heritage-inspired design with modern engineering in a limited-production two-seater coupé.
Built through a bespoke, artisan-led process with a strong focus on craftsmanship and attention to detail, the 33 Stradale reflects the same approach that defined some of the most iconic from Alfa Romeo models. The project was developed in collaboration with Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, the renowned Italian coachbuilder closely associated with Alfa Romeo throughout its history. Limited to just 33 examples worldwide, each 33 Stradale has been individually specified by its owner.
The 33 Stradale lands in the States
The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale has been handed over for the first time to an American customer with a delivery ceremony at the Alfa Romeo dealership in Austin, Texas.
The recipient is Glynn Bloomquist, entrepreneur and motorsport enthusiast, who has a deep-rooted history with Alfa Romeo. Growing up with a father in love with muscle cars and American racing, he spent a decade touring the world following IndyCar, accumulating memories ranging from rookie Jimmy Vasser's speed record at the 1992 Indianapolis 500 to the discovery, in a biography of Enzo Ferrari, of the two-decade bond between the Drake and the Biscione brand.
From then on, his passion for Alfa Romeo became a collector's journey: among the cars in the collection, a 1958 Giulietta Spider Veloce, previously owned by Indy 500 Champion Bobby Rahal, and a Giulia Quadrifoglio 100th Anniversary edition, tested on the track at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin in 2023, at the invitation of the Alfa Romeo team. That was when Bloomquist met Cristiano Fiorio, head of the 33 Stradale project, and accepted the invitation to become one of the thirty-three customers – on one condition: the car had to be red.
In mid-May 2024, Bloomquist travelled to Arese to finalise the configuration of his model in person. He was welcomed in the Sala del Consiglio of the History Museum – the same place where the design of the original 33 Stradale had been approved in 1967 and where the Alfa Romeo designers, engineers and historians have now met and listened to the thirty-three owners to then create, together with them, an unrepeatable work of art and an authentic manifesto of what the Italian brand can – and will – do in terms of style and driving experience. The result, now in its owner’s hands, is a specimen of refined complexity: bodywork in Rosso Villa d'Este embellished with a horizontal white band on the front – a chromatic reference to the Tipo 33 racing car of the 1960s – 20” “Progressive” wheels in black with diamond-cut finish and carbon-fibre accents.
At the customer’s specific request, the interior is upholstered in a special leather. The embossing and colour draws inspiration from the world of furnishings, providing an extremely characterful and lived-in appearance to the seats and interior panelling. On the doors and embroidered on the headrests, the number 14: a tribute to Enzo Ferrari, who put the number on Alfa Romeos in the 1920s, and to A.J. Foyt, four-time winner of the Indy 500. The car will not be locked away in a garage; its owner assures us that roads and circuits in central Texas will be waiting to hear its roar.
First delivery at the Alfa Romeo Museum, Arese
For the first time in the 33 Stradale's history, a delivery has taken place directly to the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, somewhere that preserves Alfa Romeo memories; its halls play host to the 1967 model that inspired the entire operation. The choice of location was not only symbolic: the car delivered has a bespoke colour developed as part of the BOTTEGAFUORISERIE program. To
comprehend its value, we must retrace the brand’s history of colour. Alfa Romeo red has never been set in stone: it has transformed and evolved over time, following the company's deepest DNA. From the pastel red of the first racing cars and the dark burgundy of the 1920s, to the Rosso Villa d'Este – developed for the event of the same name, applied for the first time in 2012 on the 4C Concept, then optimized for the 33 Stradale as a production colour – each hue has told the story of an era. The new colour takes its place as a further chapter in this tradition: created on demand for a customer who wanted a red that could evoke Alfa Romeo’s typical shades with a reference to Montreal orange, it is the upshot of artisan experiments that found their solution in a four-layer process. The base is a pastel that recalls the 1960s Giulietta Spider and Duetto's Rosso Italia – livelier than the classic Alfa Rosso – followed by a first depth transparent, a pearlescent mica layer with gold tones, and a final transparent. The result is a colour that changes with the light: almost understated indoors, iridescent, and vital in direct sunlight, when the gold tone enhances the lines of the bodywork and amplifies its dynamic perception.
The model will remain on display to the public until June 2nd, offering visitors to the Museum the opportunity to see in person what BOTTEGAFUORISERIE can produce: tradition and innovation are blended in a one-off where artisanship, technology and meticulous attention to detail are not just values, they are a veritable way of life.
