Alfa Romeo has produced the 100,000th Tonale at the Stellantis Gianbattista Vico plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, Naples. The milestone model is a Tonale Sprint in Alfa red, destined for the Italian market. This production milestone confirms the success of a global model, that signified the entry of Alfa Romeo into the era of electrification, while remaining faithful to its sporty DNA.
Launched in 2022, the Tonale features an unmistakable Alfa Romeo design that blends balanced proportions, attention to detail and advanced technology. It offers a range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines, designed to deliver efficiency without compromising the signature performance of the brand. Designed, engineered and developed in Italy, the Tonale is produced at the Gianbattista Vico plant in Campania on a dedicated, highly automated production line providing the highest standards of quality.
Successfully sold across global markets, the model has been enthusiastically received by international critics, as demonstrated by the numerous awards it has received in recent years.
The model in brief
The distinct Italian design is matched by record-breaking technology and class leading connectivity, as demonstrated by the fully digital interior interface, which combines a reconfigurable 12.3-inch telescopic instrument panel with a 10.25-inch central touchscreen infotainment system. The Alfa Romeo Tonale has engineered unique, exclusive technical solutions to ensure a driving experience aligned with the brand’s DNA, where meticulous craftmanship meets a relentless pursuit of top-tier quality.
The range is divided into three trim levels – Sprint, Veloce and Intensa. Tonale is available with a wide range of engines designed to meet the needs of customers. It is available with a 280hp Plug-in hybrid Q4 powertrain with 6-speed automatic transmission, or a 160hp Ibrida powertrain with variable-geometry turbo (VGT) and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
A highlight of the current line-up is the new Intensa special series, which is available across the Alfa Romeo range and introduces exclusive design enhancements to celebrate the identity of a brand with a strong, bold and visceral attitude. The new top-of-the-range Tonale stands out for its sporty aesthetics with new, custom designed 20-inch alloy wheels featuring bright gold accents and Dark Miron finishes. The exclusive and refined interiors offer black Alcantara seats with leather-coloured stitching, an Alcantara-upholstered dashboard and a two-tone leather steering wheel. The specification as standard is one of the most comprehensive in the segment and includes electronically controlled suspension, Level 2 Driver Assistance System and an exclusive 470W Harman Kardon audio system with 14 speakers and subwoofer.
Made in Italy at Pomigliano
The Alfa Romeo Tonale is manufactured at the refurbished Gianbattista Vico Stellantis plant in Pomigliano d’Arco, Naples – one of the group’s most advanced facilities – on a new production line and assembly unit dedicated to the latest Alfa Romeo model. Designed in 1968 by Alfa Romeo and operational since 1972, the industrial complex has produced 5 million cars to date, and has earned numerous international awards, including the Automotive Lean Production award for best plant in Europe. In 2021, the plant also underwent a major refurbishment to meet future challenges, evidenced by the adoption of the most innovative technologies to build hybrid cars, comprehensive staff training and its commitment to the environment.
Tonale, the C-SUV winning over international critics
The Alfa Romeo Tonale has been embraced by both the public and automotive critics globally, receiving prestigious awards that recognises its excellence in design, style and technology. At launch, it was named UIGA ‘Europe Car 2023’ and ‘New Car of the Year 2023’ by Quattroruote magazine and begun to stand out globally. In the US, the renowned Green Car Journal named it the ‘Green SUV of the Year™ 2024’ rewarding its combination of sustainability and performance. In Germany, it triumphed at the ‘Family Car of the Year’ Awards 2024, winning in two categories, based on the voting results in AUTO Straßenverkehr magazine, while auto motor und sport deemed the Tonale the best import vehicle in the ‘Compact/Off-Road SUV’ category as part of its Best Cars 2025. In Latin America, Italian design has also left its mark – the Tonale won ‘The Best Design 2025’ award in Chile, boosting its position as a benchmark for premium SUVs worldwide.
