Stellantis Strengthens Its Commitment to a Sustainable and Competitive Automotive Ecosystem in Algeria Through Its Local Integration Strategy
The FIAT factory in Tafraoui is entering the next phase of its ambitious industrial project in Algeria by announcing the 2nd International Supplier Convention to accelerate the development of Algeria’s automotive sector.
Oran, January 30, 2025 – The FIAT factory in Tafraoui is entering the next phase of its ambitious industrial project in Algeria by announcing the 2nd International Supplier Convention to accelerate the development of Algeria’s automotive sector. On this occasion, Stellantis plans to launch a National Engineering Hub to nurture the talents and technologies that will shape the country’s automotive industry, notably through its academic partnerships with ISTA-USTO MB, the Oran National Polytechnic School, and the Algiers National Polytechnic School.
The 2nd edition of the International Supplier Convention, scheduled for May 2025, aims once again to demonstrate the magnitude of Stellantis’ industrial project in Algeria, which has seen substantial growth since the first convention in April 2024.
“We are proud to reach this decisive new milestone in building a prosperous and competitive automotive ecosystem in Algeria. With the organization of our 2nd International Supplier Convention and the creation of our National Engineering Hub, we reaffirm our strategic vision based on the principle of deep localization. By developing a strong network of Algerian subcontractors and enhancing technical and human capabilities, Stellantis is committed to establishing a self-sufficient local presence, producing in the region for the region. This reflects our determination to invest long-term in the Algerian automotive industry and to position Algeria as a strategic pillar for Stellantis in the Middle East and Africa” said Samir Cherfan, Chief Operating Officer at Stellantis Middle East and Africa.
This forum has already led to the selection of five Algerian suppliers in 2024 and achieved a local integration rate of over 10%.
Through initiatives like this international supplier convention, Stellantis aims to encourage Algerian manufacturers to engage in automotive subcontracting, as well as invite leading foreign players to invest locally or contribute their technology and know-how through partnerships.
Stellantis aspires to foster the emergence of a local supplier network that can cover 30% of the content of vehicles produced at Tafraoui by 2026, thereby establishing, in Algeria, the first integrated automotive ecosystem.
This event is part of our strategy to develop a sustainable and competitive automotive ecosystem in Algeria, leveraging local integration to make Stellantis’ Middle East and Africa region a leader in value creation by the end of the decade.
