Stellantis South Africa Continues Takata Airbag Recall Efforts: Immediate Action Still Required for Remaining Owners

Stellantis South Africa is reinforcing its ongoing Takata airbag recall campaign, continuing the critical Stop-Drive safety warning for selected vehicles, including Citroën, DS, Chrysler, Jeep, Opel, Peugeot, and legacy Chevrolet models. Driving with an unrepaired Takata airbag poses a severe risk of injury or death.

JOHANNESBURG – January 5, 2026 – Stellantis South Africa is reinforcing its ongoing Takata airbag recall campaign, continuing the critical Stop-Drive safety warning for selected vehicles, including Citroën, DS, Chrysler, Jeep, Opel, Peugeot, and legacy Chevrolet models. Driving with an unrepaired Takata airbag poses a severe risk of injury or death.

This global recall remains one of the most extensive safety programs ever undertaken, and Stellantis is maintaining its commitment to reach every affected customer until all repairs are completed.

For several years, Stellantis has proactively contacted customers, replaced defective Takata airbag inflators, and expanded communication channels to ensure outstanding vehicles are repaired. While significant progress has been made, some vehicles remain unrepaired, and the Stop-Drive warning continues to apply.

Customers can check if their vehicles are affected by visiting the brand portals listed below and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):

Stellantis South Africa urges all customers whose airbags have not yet been replaced to immediately stop driving their vehicles and arrange a free repair at an authorized service center. All replacement work is carried out at authorized service centers at no cost to customers.

Stellantis remains committed to customer safety and will continue its communication efforts until every affected vehicle has been remedy.
