CITROËN RACING FORMULA E TEAM CELEBRATES A PODIUM ON ITS SINGLE-SEATER DEBUT AS NICK CASSIDY CHARGES FROM P15 TO P3

The opening round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in São Paulo delivered a landmark moment for the Citroën brand, as the freshly unveiled Citroën Racing Formula E Team made its competitive debut in single-seater motorsport. The race showcased both the resilience and performance potential of the team, highlighted by a remarkable podium finish from New Zealand’s Nick Cassidy, who stormed from P15 on the grid to an impressive P3.

True to form Nick demonstrated outstanding pace, race craft, and energy management throughout the 31-lap contest. Executing decisive overtakes and maintaining strategic discipline, he steadily climbed through the field. His late-race push secured a well-deserved podium, marking Citroën Racing’s first top-three finish in its inaugural Formula E outing.

Unfortunately, teammate Jean-Eric Vergne was unable to complete the race after a technical issue forced him to retire. The team is currently conducting a full investigation to determine the root cause. Despite the setback, the two-time Formula E champion’s performance in practice and qualifying showed promising speed that bodes well for the season ahead.

This result marks a historic milestone for Citroën as it steps into the world of single-seater competition, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to electrification, innovation, and high-performance engineering.

The team now looks ahead to Round 2 in Mexico City on January 10 2026, aiming to build on this strong foundation as the season continues.

Nick delivered a phenomenal drive, and although we are disappointed for JEV because he did a great job all weekend, it was a technical issue and we are confident we will come back stronger. It was a positive result and it’s great to start the season like this with such positive momentum. This weekend demonstrates that Citroën belongs on the world stage of all-electric racing.”

Citroën Racing Formula E Team Driver Nick Cassidy said:
“I’m blown away for everyone at Citroën Racing, to have a podium on our first race together is something very special. We’ve been so focused on this car and we have worked so hard during the off-season to arrive here ready and I thought after free practice that we were going to have a really strong day. I was really disappointed with qualifying because of the fact that we have a really great car here over one lap and I didn’t get to show that potential during qualifying but it worked out in the race and all that hard work paid off!”

Citroën Racing Formula E Team Driver Jean-Eric Vergne said:
“Tough race for me with the technical issue at the end meaning I couldn’t restart after the red flag. I think it could have been a P7 for us and it’s a shame not to have those points. It wasn’t easy going on my side of the garage, but we managed a strong qualifying. We just need to investigate our difficulties during the race. On a positive note, Nick has brought the first podium for the team so that’s great – especially at the first race of the season. So, it was a good day for the team on that front, and I really hope we can carry on like this, -preferably with me having a better race next time out in Mexico!”
