The 2012 FIAT Ducato On Sale in Ireland

The Fiat Ducato has, over the course of five generations and thirty years, picked up numerous international awards and sold more than 2.2 million vehicles around the world. For 2012, the Fiat Ducato retains the same distinctive styling as before but the cabin has been revised with a new centre console, new infotainment units and a revised "Blue&Me Nav" system. There are also three new trim levels on offer with the top specification offering such refinements as a wood-effect finish and a leather steering wheel, making it ideally suited to luxury shuttles and motorhomes, and thanks to improved noise and vibration suppression the Ducato's cabin is now as quiet as a medium-sized family car.

Under the bonnet there's a completely new range of Euro 5, MultiJet II, turbo-diesel engines which lower CO2, NOx and particulate emissions while improving fuel economy by 15 percent compared to the Euro 4 engines. Three 2.3-litre engines with 110hp, 130hp and 148hp, and one 3.0-litre unit with a class-leading output of 177hp are offered and all come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. A six-speed clutch-less manual is optional on the 3.0-litre unit, while "Start&Stop" and a "Gear Shift Indicator" are both available across the range.

Safety-wise, every Ducato is fitted with disc brakes on all four wheels, ABS with EBD and brake assist as well as a driver's airbag, hill-holder, wheel-spin control and down-shift torque management. Options include passenger, side and curtain airbags; a new stability control system that factors in vehicle load and centre of gravity and a new "Traction+" system to improve grip on slippery surfaces such as gravel or wet grass.

The new Fiat Ducato retains its suspension configuration (MacPherson front; rigid-axle leaf-sprung rear) with an optional self-levelling pneumatic suspension. GVWs vary between 3,000kg and 4,000kg and payloads range from 1,000 to 2,000kg (including driver). The maximum towing capacity is 2,500kg.

Ducato vans are available in three wheelbases, four lengths and three heights, with eight load volumes between 8m³ and 17m³. The rear and sliding side doors are offered in three different sizes also. Conversion bases are available in four wheelbase lengths and five overall lengths, with up to 2,100kg permitted on the front axle and 2,400kg on the rear. The Fiat Ducato also offers the only bespoke motorhome base in Europe and as a result two-thirds of all European motorhomes bought in 2011 will be Ducato based.

Options include air conditioning, cruise control, a reversing camera, parking sensors and "Blue&Me" which incorporates Fiat's "eco:Drive Fiat Professional" system to assist drivers in finding the most fuel-efficient routes while encouraging a more economical driving style, cutting fuel bills by up to 15 percent and reducing vehicle wear and tear.

Prices for the Fiat Ducato start at €19,995 (including VAT, €16,359 excluding VAT) for the 2.3-litre MultiJet II 110hp short-wheelbase, standard-roof version, with the 130hp 2.3-litre MJet II (short-wheelbase, standard-roof) starting at €23,550 (VAT inclusive).

Medium wheelbase models start at €24,050 (VAT inclusive, SWB, 2.3 MJet II 110hp) while long-wheelbase models (medium height) start at €25,950 (VAT inclusive). Models powered by the 3.0 MultiJet 180hp start at €29,650 (VAT inclusive) while the Ducato Maxi starts at €28,450 (VAT inclusive, 2.3 MJet II 130hp).

Maxi Cab models start at €25,550 (VAT inclusive, 2.3 MJet II 130hp) and the extra-long wheelbase crew cab version starts at €35,950 (VAT inclusive, 3.0 MJet II 180hp)
