Chrysler and FIAT Vehicles Earn 5-Star Euro NCAP Ratings

The Chrysler 300C and Fiat Freemont have both achieved five-star safety ratings in the latest round of tests conducted by the independent safety organisation Euro NCAP, while the new Chrysler Grand Voyager achieved a commendable four stars, just shy of the points required for five stars.

There are four main areas of assessment: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian Protection and Safety Assist, and the objective of the test is not only to ascertain how well the vehicles perform in a crash but also how the vehicles assist the driver in avoiding accidents in the first place. Achieving a five-star rating is becoming increasingly tougher year by year, making the achievements of FIAT Group in this latest round of Euro NCAP tests all the more impressive.

FIAT Group is committed to doing its part in protecting all road users, adopting the most advanced electronic accident avoidance and mitigation devices, including advanced ESP; forward collision warning (soon to be offered on the company's best-selling model, the Fiat Panda); blind-spot warning; adaptive cruise control; adjustable pedals and pop-up pedestrian-friendly bonnets.

Thousands of hours of digital simulations on components and subsystems, as well as more than 200 impact simulations on the Hyge Slide and more than 80 crash tests (frontal, side, rear and rollover impacts at various speeds against different types of obstacles using crash test dummies of all shapes and sizes) are conducted for each new Fiat Group model.

The only other FIAT Group vehicle tested since the introduction of stricter Euro NCAP parameters in 2009 is the Alfa Romeo Giulietta which not only achieved a five-star rating but was also declared the safest car in its class, with a score of 97 percent for the front occupant protection.

In total, FIAT Group has ten cars with five-star NCAP ratings (seven pre-2009 models) with many new vehicles (Chrysler Ypsilon, Jeep Compass, Jeep Grand Cherokee, FIAT Panda) yet to be tested.
