PEUGEOT LANDTREK IN USHUAIA. THE “CONECTANDO LAS AMERICAS” EXPEDITION REACHES ARGENTINA’S LAND OF FIRE

Three PEUGEOT LANDTREK pickups first travelled more than 4,500 km in Central America, and three others more than 12,500 km in South America, often in extreme conditions. These last three vehicles, like their predecessors in the "New PEUGEOT LANDTREK Conectando las Américas[1]” expedition, have just arrived at their destination in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina: Ushuaia, the mythical southernmost city in the world. The PEUGEOT LANDTREK has underlined its reliability, its quality, its robustness and its comfort. All essential for a functional, durable, easy to repair tool which is equally well suited to outdoor leisure activities. It took 34 days to cover a total of over 17,000 km. The start was given on 25 November 2020 in Los Cabos, Baja California (Mexico), for a crossing that took the first crew to Vera-Cruz, in the Gulf of Mexico. The raid had to stop for a long time because of the Covid-19 pandemic and revise its route before starting again in lquique, Chile, and to continue its journey to Ushuaia, which it reached on 24 November.   [1] « Connecting the Americas »

PEUGEOT LANDTREK IN USHUAIA. THE “CONECTANDO LAS AMERICAS” EXPEDITION REACHES ARGENTINA’S LAND OF FIRE

These last three vehicles, like their predecessors in the "New PEUGEOT LANDTREK Conectando las Américas[1] expedition, have just arrived at their destination in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina: Ushuaia, the mythical southernmost city in the world.

This crossing of the South American continent is a technological and human adventure, in which the PEUGEOT LANDTREK pick-up truck has been confronted with all types of terrain, climates and altitudes, proving its remarkable adaptation to this diverse continent. By going out to meet users, it has illustrated that its attractive style, advanced modularity and unprecedented body size meet the needs of a demanding and diverse customer base.

For PEUGEOT, the launch of the LANDTREK is a major event: the "one-ton" pick-up truck segment has the largest coverage outside Europe, and represents almost half of the light commercial vehicle market in Latin America. It alone accounts for 2.4 million vehicles worldwide, of which nearly 400,000 were sold in South America in 2020.

At the end of a raid of over 17,000 km and a third stage on Argentinian soil, the three crews in the "Conectando las Américas" expedition have just reached the small town of Ushuaia, the southernmost town in Argentina, located in the south of the large island of Tierra del Fuego.

By taking it literally to the "end of the world", the PEUGEOT brand wants to demonstrate that the LANDTREK pick-up truck has the assets it needs to be a key player in the "one-ton" pick-up truck segment, that it is adapted to all conditions, even the most extreme, and that its reliability and crossing capacities enable it to tackle the countless challenges across the entire Latin American continent.

The expedition began on 25 November 2020 in Los Cabos, Mexico, when the new PEUGEOT LANDTREK pick-up truck was unveiled to the national and regional press.

For a fortnight, the Mexican route, 4,500 km long, linked Los Cabos on the Pacific coast and Vera-Cruz on the Atlantic coast. Along the way, the teams met with dealers, brand customers and potential users of the car, allowing them to test its ability to cross obstacles on specially designed routes. The expedition also had to traverse the mighty traffic jams of Mexico City, the LANDTREK’s resistance was put to the test up to an altitude of 3,700 m at the foot of the Popocatépetl volcano, before reaching the Gulf of Mexico, where the expedition was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which prevented any cross-border road traffic.

At the beginning of November 2021, the expedition was able to set off again for the deep south, from Iquique in northern Chile. A second team of two women and four men, driving three new vehicles, covered 6,500 km in Chile, following in the footsteps of the legendary PEUGEOT 2008 DKR, by taking a portion of the "Dakar" route. They crossed the Atacama Desert, the ghost town of Humberstone and the Calama wind farm - built at an altitude of more than 2,000 m, drove at the foot of the Láscar volcano - the most active in the region, crossed the Valley of the Moon, drove along the Pacific coast to Viña del Mar, then, south of Santiago de Chile, turned towards the Argentinian border, with a final stage through the temperate rainforest of the Southern Andes.

The three LANDTREK pick-up trucks were then entrusted to a new Argentinian crew, who, after a 9-day journey of more than 6,000 km, took them from Villa La Angostura in Argentinian Patagonia to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. They faced exceptional snow conditions in the Bariloche region, drove along the famous Ruta Nacional 40, which crosses the country from north to south in the beautiful Lake Area, and tested the off-road capabilities of the car on the tracks leading to the Perito-Moreno glacier.

Intended to be a link between the different countries of Latin America, from Mexico to the Argentinian border, the "Conectando las Américas" expedition with the new LANDTREK pick-up truck marks both PEUGEOT's new start in the highly competitive mid-size pick-up truck segment and the expansion of its global reach.

.PEUGEOT is tackling three challenges with the new LANDTREK pick-up truck:

  • To continue its growth outside Europe thanks to the most international pick-up truck offer possible,
  • To increase its sales volumes by relying on a complete range of light commercial vehicles, 77% of which are pick-up trucks in Latin America,
  • Strengthen its international reputation by attracting new customers.

For Francisca ROMAN TRUJILLO, Brand Manager PEUGEOT Chile and Importers South America, who put this incredible expedition together, the new PEUGEOT LANDTREK demonstrated its reliability and versatility on all terrains, in addition to arousing genuine interest in each of the cities it crossed. When the raid arrived in Ushuaia, she said: "The expedition was a success, both for those who took part and for those we met along the way, customers and dealers. Furthermore, the diversity of terrain, climates and altitudes encountered along the way illustrated the quality and reliability of the new PEUGEOT pick-up truck. Its all-wheel drive, cargo capacity, inside space, 360º vision thanks to the off-road side cameras, made a unique adventure possible in optimal safety conditions".
