PEUGEOT at the 28th Sao Paulo International Motor Show: A continuation of the globalisation strategy of the range with the arrival of the PEUGEOT 2008 crossover

On a 1788 m2 stand presenting 14 standard production vehicles and concept cars, PEUGEOT continues the rollout of the “ 8 “ range in Brazil. Following the PEUGEOT 208, the PEUGEOT 2008 Crossover, produced at the Porto Real (RJ) plant, will be launched on the Brazilian market during the first half of 2015. With the 208 Natural concept car, the 208 Urb and the 2008 HYbrid Air technology demonstrator vehicle, PEUGEOT demonstrates its desire to put the environment at the heart of its approach to the design of its vehicles. 2008 DKR is on display in the sport area, a first in Latin America, just a few weeks from PEUGEOT’s grand return to the Dakar.

PEUGEOT 2008 Crossover: a car for markets worldwide

The presentation of the PEUGEOT 2008 Crossover for the first time in Latin America takes place at a time when the 200, 000 sales mark for this successful model has just been passed. Many commentators foresee that by 2020, one in four vehicles sold in the world will be in the crossover/SUV segment.

So the timing of the introduction of the PEUGEOT 2008 to the Brazilian market is ideal and should contribute to the growing success of PEUGEOT’s range of crossover models throughout the world.

From 2015, the PEUGEOT 2008 Crossover will represent one in five PEUGEOT sales in the Brazilian market.

The PEUGEOT 2008 Crossover will set out to win young urban customers in the large Brazilian cities, customers who like living in town, but also enjoy escaping to the wide open spaces that exist in their country for their leisure activities.

PEUGEOT 208 Natural and 208 Urb: sustainable Brazilian mobility

With 208 Natural and 208 Urb, PEUGEOT Brazil presents two 100 % Brazilian concepts that combine research on the use of natural materials and urban mobility.

The PEUGEOT 208 Natural, conceived and designed by the styling team at the Group’s technical centre in Sao Paulo, includes locally processed renewable materials and has been the subject of cooperation with Embraer, a Brazilian major player in the worldwide aeronautical industry.

The PEUGEOT 208 Natural includes materials that are renewable or based on natural resources, as well as high technology materials. For example, it uses mineral pigment paints, roof finishers made of laminated stone, an aerodynamic kit made from carbon fibre recycled from the aeronautical industry, leather trim treated with vegetable dyes and covered in Pirarucu scales (a fish from the Amazon basin), a Natural badge made of bamboo, sun visors in Newspaper Wood, a list which is not exhaustive.

The PEUGEOT 208 Natural is an experimental laboratory for new solutions, presented at the Sao Paulo Motor Show at the same time as the PEUGEOT-ONF Forestry Carbon Sink in the Brazilian Amazon celebrates its fifteenth anniversary.

The PEUGEOT 208 Urb revisits urban mobility by associating the style, safety and technology of the PEUGEOT 208 with an electric bicycle on board. Based on a 208 1.6 litre Flex Griffe with automatic transmission, the highest trim level available on 208 in Brazil, the 208 Urb includes a futuristic electric bicycle (model AE21) and various accessories aimed at making daily life easier for the urban motorist in the 21st century.

Technology area and motorsport area: PEUGEOT 2008 HYbrid Air and 2008 DKR

The PEUGEOT 2008 HYbrid Air takes centre stage in the technology area of the stand at Sao Paulo. Fitted with an innovative full-hybrid drive train, this concept associates a three-cylinder 1.2 litre PureTech 82 hp petrol engine and an hydraulic system driven by compressed air. The PEUGEOT 2008 HYbrid Air operates in one of three modes, managed by an intelligent control system that is transparent for the user. A ZEV mode up to 70 kph using energy that is recovered and stored during use of the vehicle, a petrol mode in which the three-cylinder 1.2 litre PureTech petrol engine alone is used, and a combined mode where the petrol engine and the hydro-pneumatic system operate together (transitional phases, acceleration). This groundbreaking technology allows very low fuel consumption of 34 km/l, corresponding to a nominal reduction of 45 % in fuel consumption on the urban cycle compared to an equivalent model fitted with just a 1.2 litre PureTech engine.

The PEUGEOT 2008 DKR, presented to the general public in Latin America for the first time, embodies the brand’s sporting DNA and represents an audacious choice. The PEUGEOT 2008 DKR relies on two-wheel drive, like its standard production sister, to unashamedly face up to its four wheel drive competitors. Radical, with its 37 inch tyres, long travel suspension (460 mm) and driven by a powerful 340 hp V6 engine, the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR is ready to do battle throughout the very demanding stages of the Dakar, the biggest Rally-Raid in the world covering a total distance of approximately 10 ,000 km.
