Electric victory for Cycles PEUGEOT in the French e-MTB Cup

Cycles PEUGEOT has achieved the double at the end of the first round of the French Cup of Electric Mountain Bike Enduro, Sunday July 4th in Risoul (Hautes Alpes). Its riders Mathieu Ruffray and Yannick Pontal have confirmed their brilliant form at the beginning of the season. It is a success for Cycles PEUGEOT, also the sponsor of the French Cup of e-MTB and MTB. The involvement in e-MTB competition reaffirms PEUGEOT's electrification strategy and demonstrates the performance and reliability of its bikes. The next round of the French Cup will take place on 21 and 22 August in Haute Savoie.

The Cycles PEUGEOT Team riders, Mathieu Ruffray and Yannick Pontal, emerged as the leaders among about fifty professionals and amateurs during the first round of the French e-MTB Cup in Risoul. Over two days of competition, they tackled nearly 3,900 metres of positive altitude difference and 68 kilometres, including 9 timed special stages and the link routes. They have consolidated their excellent start to the season, following their 2nd and 6th place finishes in the French Mountain Bike Cup on 20 June in Val D'Allos.

"This weekend was a great first for Yannick and me with our new PEUGEOT eM01 FS bikes. From the first day, I won with a good lead, which allowed me to manage the second day and not make any mistakes, and to finish the race at the top of the ranking. Now that's done and I'm already looking forward to the next race! The bike was very stable in the fast stages, where I set two fastest times. This gave me a confidence boost and allowed me to go into the weekend without making any big mistakes" said Matthieu Ruffray, Elite Cycles PEUGEOT rider.

"I am very happy to offer this first national podium to Peugeot in e-Bike and especially to share it with the Team mate Mathieu. The whole team was on top form and even if I was weak on the first day, everyone helped me to hold on until the end! A good first race to continue to improve the bike settings" said Yannick Pontal, Elite Cycles PEUGEOT rider.

The winning bike is the PEUGEOT eM01 FS PowerTube (e = electric, M = Mountain, 01 = top of the range, FS = Full Suspension, PowerTube = BOSCH battery integrated into the frame). Developed and tested by riders, it is closely derived from the flagship PEUGEOT e-MTB. The geometry of its frame and the kinematics of its suspensions (160 mm front and rear) were developed by PEUGEOT Design Lab in partnership with Antidote Solutions. The result is an electrically-assisted mountain bike that performs well in amateur enduro competitions and is fun to ride.

Cycles PEUGEOT's involvement in e-MTB competition confirms PEUGEOT's electrification strategy for its 2 and 4-wheel vehicles. The competition is a showcase for PEUGEOT's electrically assisted bikes. In 2021, the brand is once again a partner of the French e-MTB and Enduro MTB Cup. The Team Pro is also involved in world cup events, the Enduro World Series.

Each round of the Enduro events takes place over one or two days during a weekend. The routes include a majority of technical descents with short, explosive climbs in the special stages, and long climbs in the liaison to reach the start of the various timed special stages.

Yannick Pontal and Mathieu Ruffray will also be at the French MTB championships from July 8th to 11th in Levens (Alpes Maritimes). Morgane Jonnier will be defending the colours of the Cycles PEUGEOT pro team at the Enduro World Series in La Thuile, Italy, also this weekend. The next round of the French Enduro e-Mountain Bike Cup will take place on August 21st and 22nd in Thollon Les Mémisses (Haute Savoie).
