e-VTi engine, ETG5 gearbox, CO2 emissions with petrol down to 95g/km on 208
In a difficult vehicle market, the 208 is a real success. Cumulatively, for the first seven months of 2013, the 208 takes 3rd place in the B hatchback segment in Europe 30. With a market share of 9.6%, it needs to gain a little less than 1 point to seize 1st place. Looking at the details, the Peugeot hatchback is on the podium in many countries: 1st in France and Holland, 2nd in Switzerland, Portugal, Denmark and Norway, 3rd in Belgium, Luxembourg, Croatia, and Sweden. This excellent result for 208 is owed in particular to its range of efficient engines, both Diesel and petrol. To reinforce these positive results and gain additional market share, a new 1.2 e-VTi 82 ETG5 version further reduces CO2 emissions to just 95g/km on 208, equal to the fuel consumption of 4.1 l/100km (68.9 mpg).
The new generation three-cylinder petrol engine is fitted with Stop&Start, offering customers the benefits associated with this technology:
- fuel consumption in urban driving reduced by up to 15 %,
- automatic engine stop,
- almost instantaneous restarting (400 ms),
- silent when in use and no vibration.
The Volt Control system manages the alternator to recover energy on deceleration. A hybrid battery stores the energy and returns it when the engine re-starts (e-booster). The Stop&Start system has a temperature operating range that extends from -5°C to +35°C, a wider range than systems found on competitor vehicles.
In addition, this version of the 208 is fitted with the 5-speed ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox), an evolution of the 5 speed electronically controlled gearbox. A creepage function, particularly useful when driving at low speeds, allows the vehicle to advance slowly when idling without touching the accelerator pedal.
