Brazil: Peugeot launches the 208 produced locally

The launch of the 208 in Brazil, a year after the start of sales in Europe, illustrates the acceleration of the Marque’s international strategy. More than 300,000 Peugeot 208 vehicles have already been produced in Europe, at the Poissy (France) and Trnava (Slovakia) plants.

Brazil constitutes a strategic market in the Marque’s policy of internationalisation. More than 305 million Euros have been invested in developing the vehicle and preparing the production centre at Porto Real, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where it is produced. To best meet the demands of local customers, the Peugeot 208 has benefited from a great deal of work on integration and adaptation, carried out by the Brazilian R&D and design departments. Accordingly, the 208 is fitted with Flex-fuel engines produced by PSA Peugeot Citroën in Brazil.

Three Flex-fuel versions are offered for this market, “Active” and “Allure” fitted with a 1.5 litre engine and “Griffe” with a 1.6 litre engine. The1.5 litre Flex-fuel engine benefits from the highest “A” energy efficiency classification. The 208 is also very well placed in terms of service and repair costs with one of the three best scores in its category in Brazil.
