Rüsselsheim. The Manta and other sport stars from Rüsselsheim are among the starters on this year’s “Klassik Tour Kronberg” vintage car rally (August 29-31). Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller drives a 1975 Diplomat B (230hp) from the Opel Classic collection. Vice President Communications Harald Hamprecht is taking part with his private Opel GT, while a 1975 Ascona A and Manta A (90hp) are piloted by actor/director Detlef Buck and TV star Jeanette Hain respectively. A star attraction is the 240hp Opel Ascona B 400 with which Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer won the World Rally Championship in 1982. The Opel team is completed by a 1988 Manta B (110hp) and a 1989 Corsa (98hp) – both in extra-sporty GSi specification.

“We are bringing our Opel icons from the sixties, seventies and eighties to the Kronberg rally, so that the fans can relive what has always made Opel such a strong brand: exciting design, innovative engineering and German precision, all at attractive prices. We democratise technology – then as now”, said Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller.

The “Klassik Tour Kronberg” starts on Thursday, August 29 in Eschborn near Frankfurt. On Saturday, August 31 the rally stops for lunch at Opel’s headquarters in Rüsselsheim, where spectators can also take a close look at some of the carmaker’s most famous concept cars, including the beautiful Opel CD.
