Opel Reaffirms Clear Commitment to Eisenach Site
Rüsselsheim. Opel has reaffirmed its clear commitment to the Eisenach site. On Tuesday, the company stressed that it wants to invest in Eisenach – when the necessary conditions for competitiveness have been met. The plant in Thuringia plays an important part in Opel’s plans for the future.
Opel has laid a sustainable proposal on the table for the Eisenach plant, which represents an improvement on the existing collective agreement. It is planned to start production of an SUV in Eisenach in April 2019 already. From 2020, a second variant – a hybrid model – could follow.
Competitiveness is the prerequisite for this plan to be realised. So far, an agreement on this has not been concluded despite intensive negotiations with the social partners. The company wants to continue the negotiations so that solutions can be found in a timely manner.
Opel wants to invest in all German site and wants to respect the collective agreements in all production plants. However, lower costs and greater efficiency are the prerequisite. Agreements with the social partners on how to restore competitiveness have already been concluded in other European countries with production sites, thus paving the way for investments.
