Rüsselsheim/Breda.  Reigning Dutch football champions Feyenoord and carmaker Opel have announced that they will continue their successful partnership. The two parties have agreed a new deal by which Opel will now be Feyenoord’s exclusive mobility partner. The new contract, which will see Opel join the club’s select number of strategic partners, starts on July 1 and will end on June 30 2020. An important feature of the partnership is the fact that Opel will supply Feyenoord’s entire fleet of vehicles for players, youth transport and staff.

The new agreement follows an extremely successful four-year period in which Opel were Feyenoord’s main sponsors. During this time, Feyenoord won the KNVB cup in 2016 and the Dutch championship in 2017. In addition, club and company made a contribution to society by way of its partnership with the Dutch Heart Foundation[1]. “We look back on the last four years with pride. During this time both Feyenoord and Opel returned to the top of their game. I’m especially proud of the fact that we managed to save over a thousand lives per year, by helping to almost double the number of volunteers working for the Heart Foundation from 85,000 to 163,000,” said Johan Claassen, General Director of Opel Netherlands.

Mark Koevermans, Feyenoord’s Commercial Director, added: “After a wonderful season, we are pleased and proud to announce that Opel and Feyenoord will remain partners. First and foremost, we would like to express our gratitude for the last four seasons. In 2013, Opel chose to sponsor Feyenoord at a time when both companies were in difficulty. So it is lovely to see that both Opel and Feyenoord are flourishing again. Together we celebrated the national title and it was a suitable and special way to conclude Opel’s main sponsorship. The new agreement shows that we will continue to work closely together in the coming three seasons.”

To recap on its four-year main sponsorship of the Rotterdam-based club, Opel made a special video compilation entitled ‘Opel’s heart still belongs to Feyenoord’.

[1] Opel has been working with Feyenoord and Hartstichting (Heart Foundation) to reach the goal of 170,000 public volunteers since November 2014. This should make it possible to reach anyone who has a heart attack outside of a hospital within six minutes anywhere in the Netherlands. Starting CPR on time doubles people’s chances of survival, meaning that an additional 2,500 lives could be saved each year
