Hessen-Thüringen Classic Car Rally: Cheers and Applause for Vintage Opel Cars
- Great class: Ten station wagons, cabriolets and limousines from Opel Classic
- Great tour: 23rd Classic Car Rally through
- Great fans: VP Sales & Aftersales Küspert and racing car ace Winkelhock participate
Rüsselsheim. Opel sent ten of its large, roomy models to the two stages of the 23rd Hessen-Thüringen Classic Car Rally. The vintage cars demonstrated their proverbial reliability on the 350 kilometers from Marburg over Dillenburg to Bad Wildungen and back to Marburg. The oldest vehicle from the Opel Classic collection was driven by VP Sales & Aftersales Peter Küspert – the strikingly beautiful 1937 Opel Super 6 Gläser convertible. The six-cylinder model built by Gläser Manufaktur in Dresden is a roadster-like convertible with two jump seats in the sloping rear. It was joined by the Rekord A and the 1967 Rekord C “Deutsch”, two more large convertible models and forebears of today’s Cascada, Opel’s attractive four-door model for open-air driving fun.
“Every classic car rally shows how deeply Opel is ingrained in peoples’ hearts. We are delighted with the passion for our cars and with the closeness to auto enthusiasts,” said Opel VP Sales & Aftersales Peter Küspert after crossing the Hessen-Thüringen finish line.
Jockel Winkelhock, Opel brand ambassador and legend amongst all motorsport fans, was met with excited applause in his 1970 Rekord C station wagon, which gave him the motivation he needed to clinch first place in his class. Just how versatile the applications for Opel station wagons already were in the past is shown by the “rescue team” made up of the fire department’s Rekord E, the Commodore C ambulance and the ADAC road recovery service Kadett D – all also in the field at the classic car rally. The vintage Opel station wagons were escorted by the brand new Insignia Sports Tourer, which features many premium technologies and will be at German dealerships from June 24.
