From Shuttle to Tipper: An Opel Movano for Nearly Any Task

Rüsselsheim.  Transporting heavy loads of cargo to the construction site, bulky filing cabinets to the customer or more than a dozen passengers with a shuttle service to the airport; transport tasks in the commercial sector are more varied than in any other area. In all these cases, the problem solver from Germany is called Opel Movano. The third generation of the largest commercial vehicle in the brand’s portfolio, which has been available for order since July, is ready for anything. With numerous different body and conversion variants offered ex works, the Movano can be precisely tailored to specific transport requirements. Four lengths, three heights, maximum gross vehicle weight of up to 4.5 tonnes, a maximum load volume of 22m³ or space for up to 17 passengers promise versatility. What all models have in common, be it panel van, dropside, tipper or shuttle buses, are highly efficient diesel engines with BiTurbo technology, a high level of safety right from the base equipment version, full connectivity and an attractive price-performance ratio with an entry-level price of €27,925 (all prices RRP excl. VAT in Germany).

The Movano panel van offers lots of possible variation and is the best-selling variant in Germany. As a versatile city delivery van, the Movano is the top choice with a gross vehicle weight of 2.8 tonnes and front-wheel drive. A vehicle length of 5.04 metres, turning circle of only 12.0 metres, load volume of up to 8.6m³ and maximum payload of 847 kilogrammes make it the perfect work-mate especially in urban environments.

The largest Movano panel van is a full-grown load carrier. A vehicle length of 6.84 metres in combination with rear-wheel drive and double tyres form the basis for a maximum gross vehicle weight of 4.5 tonnes. The cargo volume increases to up to 17m³ with a maximum payload of more than two tonnes. The Movano with crew cab offers the ideal combination of passenger transport and storage space. It can accommodate up to seven passengers and the crew cab can be combined with three different vehicle lengths, according to requirements. In the largest version, the Movano offers a load volume of 8.3m³ and maximum payload of 1,928 kilogrammes.

Tipper or dropside for construction sites, box body for maximum volume

Maximum gross vehicle weights of 3.5 or 4.5 tonnes, front and rear-wheel drive, single or double tyres – these options are also available for the Movano as a tipper, dropside and box body variant. The Movano tipper, which can be ordered from €33,525, has 40-centimetre high aluminium side walls along the cargo area and a hot-dip galvanised steel load floor as well as an electrical interface for additional conversions as standard equipment. The load bed tips over the rear of the vehicle, and a three-way tipper is also available. The Movano dropside (from €31,575) comes with aluminium side walls and an anti-slip wooden floor in the load area with lashing eyes to secure the load.

The Movano with box body offers a maximum load volume of 20m³ for an entry price of €37,325. Optionally, this can be increased to 22m³. The robust yet lightweight box with wooden panelling for the side walls and lashing strips can easily handle things when the going gets tough. Another plus point for everyday work and easy access to the cargo area: the hinged doors can be opened up to 270 degrees.

People carriers: on the road with the football team or for public transport

The Movano also cuts a fine figure as a shuttle bus or for the weekend trip to the football tournament. Prices start at €30,905 and there is enough room for eight passengers plus the driver with its driver's seat, double front passenger seat and two three-seat benches in the rear. An entire football team plus substitutes can be accommodated in the Movano (from €41,825) thanks to its 17 seats.

Chassis with cab, crew cab or platform cab

For particularly bulky goods or transport needs that even the Movano's wide range of factory-fitted body variants can’t cover, Opel offers the Movano chassis in three formats – with chassis cab, crew cab or platform cab (from €29,225). In chassis and crew cab layout, the Movano is the ideal basis for individual conversions and very specific work requirements. In these configurations, the passenger cabs are closed to the rear. In contrast, the Movano with platform cab is open to the rear to allow walk-through access from the driver's compartment to the cargo area in individual conversions.

Workspace behind the wheel: modern, safe, comfortable and connected

The wide range of model variants is part of the Movano DNA, as is its extensive equipment. Side-Wind Assistant, LED daytime running lights, a remote central locking system and a radio with Bluetooth interface or USB connection are on board as standard. In addition, Opel offers additional features in its big LCV which noticeably increase the safety level especially in commercial use. These include the optional Blind Spot Warning system in the exterior mirror – a premiere in the Movano – and the Rear Vision camera system. A special camera shows the driver what is going on behind the vehicle while it is in motion; on panel van versions with a bulkhead between cockpit and cargo compartment, drivers no longer need to rely only on the exterior mirrors. The camera mounted high up on the rear of the vehicle significantly improves visibility. The Blind Spot Warning system prevent accidents with other road users, for example with cyclists when turning. Additional safety features in the new Movano include the optional Lane Departure Warning.

The new Movano offers a comfortable and connected workspace with, for example, comfort driver and passenger seats as well as up to 22 optional storage compartments totalling 104 litres of additional space. The passenger-side FlexTray glovebox, which pulls out like a drawer and holds up to 10.5 litres, is especially practical. The Navi 50 IntelliLink Pro heads the infotainment offer. The system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and thus offers excellent connectivity. It features a capacitive, 7.0-inch colour touchscreen, which also makes it comfortable to operate. Smartphones are connected via Bluetooth^® or USB. Wireless charging is also new to the Movano.

Efficiency leap with new engines and BiTurbo technology

The Movano redefines efficiency with a new generation of engines (fuel consumption NEDC¹ Movano panel van: urban 9.7-6.1 l/100km, extra-urban 8.5-5.3 l/100km, combined 9.0-5.8 l/100 km, 233-154 g/km CO₂). The BiTurbo diesel engines deliver more power and torque compared to the predecessor engines – with lower fuel consumption. Customers have the choice between front and rear-wheel drive as well as modern six-speed transmissions and an automated manual gearbox. The 2.3-litre power units – which all comply with the strict Euro 6d-TEMP (light duty) and Euro VId (heavy duty) emission standards – range from 96kW (131hp) to 132kW (180hp). In addition to front-wheel drive, the “Heavy Duty” Movano variants offer the option of rear-wheel drive and, for some versions, also all-wheel drive.
