Lancia has fulfilled its promise: its return to rally has become a reality, captivating fans and restoring the brand to the forefront of the motorsport scene. Now, following the debut of the Ypsilon Rally4 and the exciting Trofeo Lancia, the Brand has taken a further step forward with the introduction of the Ypsilon HF Racing—a vehicle designed to expand access to the grassroots level of rallying, providing an authentic gateway to rally racing for a new generation of drivers.
The latest release was unveiled a few days ago at the legendary Balocco Proving Ground during the dynamic debut of the new 280-hp Ypsilon HF and the Ypsilon HF Line Hybrid. The event demonstrated Lancia’s commitment to placing its sporting identity at the heart of its Renaissance, uniting its legendary racing heritage with the world of road driving—where it now returns to express performance and character through models designed for the future.
Luca Napolitano, Lancia CEO, states: “With the Ypsilon HF Racing, we aim to eliminate once and for all the barriers to entry in road racing, offering a blend of high performance, safety, and low operating costs. Our goal is to make motorsport a genuine opportunity for young people once again—a place where talent can flourish and grow. In doing so, we honor our racing heritage while looking ahead with determination and ambition.”

Ypsilon HF Racing: authentic, safe, and race ready

The Ypsilon HF Racing is homologated in the Rally6 category— the entry level of the FIA rally pyramid for young drivers—featuring low costs, simplified regulations, and vehicles derived from series productions. To meet the category’s technical requirements, the new vehicle is equipped with a 3-cylinder 1.2-liter turbo engine delivering 145 hp and 240 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission featuring short gear ratios and a mechanical differential designed to guarantee dynamism and responsiveness. The chassis body—the same one used on the Ypsilon Rally 4 version—is extremely safe given its level of performance and is compliant with FIA regulations. Equipped with a homologated rollbar and safety systems that meet international standards, safety is one of its strong suits. The cockpit, the dashboard, and the suspension design are the same ones used on its racing counterpart, ensuring the driver an authentic and professional experience from first use. To guarantee braking performance in all conditions, it is equipped with 302-mm front brakes, 290-mm rear brakes, and a mechanical handbrake. The entire development process was aimed at creating an agile, high-performance vehicle packed with technical features, but with extremely low operating costs. The new Ypsilon HF Racing was established to support the training and refinement of rally driving techniques, serving as a solid starting point for drivers at the beginning of their careers. Created in collaboration with expert rally drivers and subject to rigorous dynamic testing, the vehicle embodies the brand’s core values: dynamism, accessibility, and driving pleasure. With a price of €38,900 (excluding VAT) and a “race-ready” setup, it is aimed at a large and diverse market to help create an inclusive and progressive motorsports culture. The new model can already be ordered at the Stellantis Motorsport Racing Shop, with the first deliveries commencing after summer.

HF, the return of a high-performance identity

The new HF Racing is part of a broader, more structured strategy that led to Lancia’s official return to motorsport with the Ypsilon Rally4. Unveiled at the start of 2024, the Rally4 is the highest performance version of the new-generation Ypsilon: a fully-fledged race car developed for the FIA Rally4 category with a 212-HP, three-cylinder 1.2 Turbo engine paired with a SADEV 5-speed gearbox, Ohlin adjustable shock absorbers, and a dedicated braking system. Notably, for the fine-tuning of this vehicle, the Brand looked to Miki Biasion, a true motorsports legend who, between the 80s and 90s, became inextricably linked to Lancia and went on to become the most successful Italian driver in history. From its first official appearances at the Targa Florio Rally and the Rally Due Valli, the Ypsilon Rally4 has demonstrated superior performance and reliability. Designed for ambitious private drivers and professional teams—with a special emphasis on operating costs—the spirited race car proudly bears the iconic HF logo with the red elephant. Furthermore, it stars in the Trofeo Lancia, the single-brand cup that features €360,000 in winnings and an incredible opportunity: if Under 35, the overall champion will join the Lancia Corse HF Team and compete in the 2026 FIA European Rally Championship behind the wheel of an official Ypsilon Rally4 HF. Finally, it should be noted that Lancia’s return to rally is part of a broader industrial and cultural plan, leveraging motorsport as a strategic laboratory for technical innovation, the development of young talent, and the reinforcement of the brand’s identity.
The relaunch of the historic HF logo also fits within this context. Always a symbol of Lancia’s boldest vehicles, it is back and ready to take a central role in the brand’s vision of the future. Indeed, HF will become the defining feature of all the high-performance versions within the new Lancia lineup.
