Modena, 27 May 2026 – Today, the historic Maserati plant in Modena was the venue for the cancellation ceremony of the stamp dedicated to the first 100 years of both its iconic logo, the Trident, and its first victory in a competitive race: the legendary Targa Florio. Continuing on from the official presentation of this prestigious miniature, held in Rome on 9 April at the headquarters of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, the Modena event was experienced with deep pride by the women and men of Maserati, together with local institutions and the ecosystem that every day contributes to making this site an example of Italian excellence around the world.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Vincenzo Colla, Vice-President of the Emilia Romagna Region; Paolo Zanca, Councillor for Economic Activities at the Municipality of Modena; ; Andrea Pontremoli, President of the MotorValley Association and CEO of Dallara Group; Sen. Stefano Corti, Board Member of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato; Barbara Negroni, Head of Branches of the Italian Post Office in Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria; Roberta Serrantonio, Manager of Stamp Issance Events and Temporary Philatelic Services and Santo Ficili, Maserati COO and Alfa Romeo CEO.
The only possible setting for this ceremony was the plant on Viale Ciro Menotti, a flagship of Italian industry and the beating heart of Italy's Motor Valley, an area that has transformed manufacturing and technological excellence into an identity acknowledged around the world. All the Trident’s creations were produced at this factory, thanks to the passion and professionalism of engineers and master artisans who every day translate customers’ dreams into reality, preserving a knowledge handed down and renewed without ever betraying its roots. Nowadays, the GranTurismo, GranCabrio, MCPURA and GT2 Stradale take shape here, as authentic expressions of Maserati's ability to combine design, innovation and performance in a globally recognised vision of luxury.
The Modena event forms part of a schedule of celebratory events Maserati has constructed around this extraordinary anniversary: on 25 April 1926, the legendary Maserati Tipo 26 made its debut at the Targa Florio, sporting the Trident on the bonnet for the first time and winning in its category with Alfieri Maserati at the wheel. The brainchild of Mario Maserati, one of the brothers and a great art lover, the logo was inspired by the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna, the birthplace of the “Società anonima officine Alfieri Maserati” in 1914. From then on, the Trident in the hand of the god of the abyss, an emblem of strength and power, first became the symbol of Maserati racing cars, then later an unmistakable marking on all normal production models.
Part of the “Excellence of the production and economic system” series, the stamp dedicated to the Trident is a refined work of art in miniature, the graphic design of which was created by the Maserati Centro Stile, then honed by the Philately Centre at the Officina Carte Valori e Produzioni Tradizionali of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato. In its foreground, the vignette reproduces the current Trident; its contemporary design embodies Maserati elegance and style, drawing the eye to the logo further down. In the background, a refined pattern of the earliest 1926 Tridents is intertwined on a blue base, recalling the history and evolution of the symbol in the century since it first appeared. The Italian flag and the wording “CENTENARIO” complete a composition that reinforces the link with Italian identity. Issued by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy and printed on the presses of the Officina Carte Valori e Produzioni Tradizionali of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, the celebratory stamp will be distributed by the Italian Post Office for current use and for the collectors’ circuit. This special stamp is flanked by a philately folder, a further tool to leverage the excellence of Italian culture and industry on a global scale.
Santo Ficili, Alfa Romeo CEO and Maserati COO, stated: “Today, we welcome this special stamp to our home in Modena, to celebrate not only the Trident's centenary but also the beginning of an extraordinary all-Italian story. I would therefore like to thank the women and men of Maserati, our dealer network, our customers and all the stakeholders who contribute every day to the brand's growth in over 70 international markets. With its long-standing vocation for motorsport, this local area formed the roots of our extraordinary Brand, the longest-standing in the entire Italian Motor Valley, with the ability to bring to the world a unique vision of performance and driving pleasure. A strong, unbreakable bond that continues to guide our commitment to this community and to generate new opportunities for growth for the local area and its inhabitants”.
