Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC - Mugello (I) - Qualifications

Bertolini doubles up in Trofeo Maserati Qualifying

Bertolini doubles up in Trofeo Maserati Qualifying

As the Trofeo Maserati title-chasers went head-to-head, it was Andrea Bertolini who swept the board. Bertolini posted the top times in Qualifying ahead of the last round in the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC being held this weekend at Mugello.

In session 1, the three-time FIA GT champion headed the two drivers going for the title: Peter Sundberg and Pietro Zumerle. As Bertolini does not collect championship points, the point on offer for pole went to the Swede, reducing his gap to Zumerle to just two.

In the second session, the other spots on the podium went to Davide Baldi, the 2009 Italian Climbing champion, and Paolo Necchi.

The two pole positions in the GT4 class were also taken by one man: Gabriele Gardel (FIA GT Champion in 2005 and first in the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the GT class). Gardel will line up ahead of Monaco-based driver, Cédric Sbirrazuoli, in both races. Third in session 1 went to Coldani/Gallina and Kessel/Wyss in session 2.

Andrea Bertolini: "I had the honour of being invited to take part in the last round of the Maserati series, the one that will decide who wins the title. I set the top time in both sessions but one look at the lap times shows that we are all pretty close. The races will as be hard-fought as all Trofeo Maserati events always are".

Peter Sundberg: "We are still in the running: I will start on the front row in race 1 and my team mate, Steven Goldstein, can go for it in race two. There is not much in it between us and Zumerle. Whoever makes fewer mistakes and has better luck will win".

Tomorrow's – Sunday 10 October – Race 1 is timed for 11.00- 11.40, with Race 2 taking place from 17.10 to 17.50 (local time). Both events will be shown live on Nuvolari Tv.
