After a long-awaited return, Lancia is once again a rally star, reaffirming its passion for performance with a technical and sporting project that honors its past and embraces its future. The Ypsilon Rally4 HF and the thrilling Trofeo Lancia have brought the brand’s racing legacy back into the spotlight, reigniting its enthusiasm for rallying on the roads and among fans of the most successful brand in the history of this motorsport discipline. And a few weeks ago, Lancia debuted the new Ypsilon HF Racing, a vehicle designed to expand access to the grassroots level of rallying, providing an authentic gateway to rally racing for a new generation of drivers.
With 100 Ypsilon Rally4 HF vehicles already sold and 40 teams registered, Lancia’s single-brand cup is proving to be one of the most popular and competitive championships of the season, offering the ideal balance between accessibility, performance, and youth. The four rounds–Targa Florio, Rally Due Valli, and Rally Roma Capitale–have already delivered thrills and surprises, with even more excitement still to come. The cup’s star is the Ypsilon Rally4 HF—developed with the technical input of Miki Biasion and capable of combining power and reliability since its first official tests. In short, with simplified regulations, low costs, and highly educational environment, the Trofeo Lancia represents a proving ground for both emerging talents and ambitious drivers.
After the summer break, the season will recommence with the Rally del Lazio (September 13-14), followed by the highly anticipated grand finale at Sanremo, where the final trophy celebrations will take place. Below, explore the full story of the first four rounds and discover the two race cars that embody Lancia’s new sporting legacy: the Ypsilon Rally4 HF, built to compete at the highest levels of Rally4, and the Ypsilon HF Racing, an authentic and safe gateway for young drivers looking to enter the world of motorsport.
The first three stages of the Trofeo Lancia: thrills, emerging talents, and fierce competition
With four exciting rounds and an increasingly competitive starting grid, the Trofeo Lancia 2025 has proven to be one of the season’s most dynamic and captivating championships. In particular, the competition features a total of €360,000 in winnings and an incredible opportunity. If under 35, the overall champion will join the Lancia Corse HF Team and compete in the 2026 FIA European Rally Championship behind the wheel of an official Ypsilon Rally4 HF. After the first four stages—Targa Florio, Rally Due Valli, and the two events at the Rally Roma Capitale—the leaderboard is beginning to take shape, but everything is still up for grabs in the second part of the year.
The season opener at the Targa Florio (May 10-11) immediately thrust the talent of Giandrea Pisani into the spotlight, as he delivered a flawless performance to claim the first victory of the year. Close behind him, Gabriel Di Pietro and Giorgio Cogni put in strong showings, while Nicolò Ardizzone’s result made a clear statement of intent in the Junior category. Meanwhile, in the Expert category, Denis Vigliaturo got off to a good start and brought home the first victory of the season.
The second round at the Rally Due Valli (June 7-8) showcased the competitive balance between the teams. Pisani proved himself to be the Trofeo’s frontrunner, but had to concede to young driver Davide Pesavento—the second different winner in as many races. In the Expert category, Denis Vigliaturo claimed back-to-back victories, extending his lead in the standings.
The third and fourth round took place at the Rally Roma Capitale (July 5-7), which counted towards both the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) and SPARCO Italian Absolute Rally Championship (CIAR). The competition featured two stages of the Trofeo Lancia: Round 3 on Friday and Saturday saw Pisani and Nicola Biagi make their mark ahead of Mazzocchi and Cogni. In the Junior category, Ardizzone capitalized on a puncture that slowed down Di Pietro, while Polonski finished ahead of Fiore in the Expert category. In Round 4 on Sunday, with the standings reset, Pisani doubled up, solidifying his lead at the top. Behind him, Cogni, Mazzocchi, De Antoni, and Di Pietro battled it out for a podium finish—separated by just six seconds. The latter took his revenge in the Junior Cup, while Polonski secured another overall victory in the Expert category. Second place on the day was enough for Fiore to take the lead in the overall standings. After four rounds, Pisani tops both the overall and Master classifications, holding a solid advantage over Cogni, Pesavento, and Mazzocchi. In the Junior category, the battle between Di Pietro and Ardizzone remains intense, while Fiore leads in the Expert category, followed by Polonski and Maurino.
With 100 Ypsilon Rally4 HF vehicles already sold and 40 teams registered, the Trofeo Lancia has proven to be both a technical and sporting success. Designed to help young drivers cut their teeth, it also provides expert drivers with a chance at showing their skills at the wheel of a high-performance vehicle. Buzzing with passion, crowds, and families, the project’s energy is also evident in the Lancia Corse HF villages, where the road and racing versions of the new Ypsilon stylishly showcase the brand’s return to the world of racing. After the summer break, the championship will resume at the Rally del Lazio (September 13-14), leading up to the grand finale at the historic Rallye Sanremo, where every point will prove decisive.
Lastly, it’s important to highlight that the success of the Trofeo Lancia is also driven by the exhilarating atmosphere of the Lancia Corse HF Village at each stage of the single-brand cup. It is a true hub of emotions where fans and families can fully explore the world of Lancia: from the possibility to road test the new Ypsilon—both hybrid and full-electric versions—to a moving journey through the brand’s past with the display of genuine icons of world rally racing, such as the Delta Integrale and the 037. This immersive experience also continues online with the most thrilling moments shared live on the Lancia Corse HF’s official social media channels, allowing the brand’s passionate and growing community to join in on the excitement.
Ypsilon Rally4 HF, a masterclass in teamwork
Unveiled at the start of 2024, the Rally4 is the highest performance version of the new-generation Ypsilon: a race car developed for the FIA Rally4 category, which instantly sets itself apart for its perfect balance of power and traction, responsiveness in changing directions, and stability at high speeds. Designed for ambitious private drivers and professional teams—with a special emphasis on operating costs—the Ypsilon Rally4 HF proudly bears the iconic HF logo with the red elephant. In particular, the spirited vehicle was created out of the collaboration between Lancia, the most successful brand in the rally world, and the Stellantis Motorsport team, which boasts 11 victories at Dakar and 27 Constructors’ titles in the World Championship Rally. The vehicle has also been enhanced by a distinctly Italian DNA thanks to prestigious partnerships between Lancia and some of the most famous premium brands in the racing world-
Under the hood, the 212-hp 1.2 Turbo engine proved itself to be powerful, smooth, and perfectly paired with a SADEV 5-speed gearbox. To cap it all off, it also features high-performance tires from the MICHELIN Pilot Sport range, two for dry asphalt and one for wet asphalt, all of which are available in 19/63-17 dimensions. Moreover, since its first competitions, the race car has wowed the public with its corner entry, its effectiveness when braking in the most technical sections, and its ability to instill trust in the driver even during the most challenging conditions. Its winning formula lies in combining a light yet incredibly rigid chassis, McPherson suspensions with Ohlins 3-way adjustable shock absorbers, and a top-of-the-line braking system with 330-mm ventilated disc brakes. Furthermore, the front-wheel drive was pushed to its full potential thanks to the mechanical limited-slip differential and a refined setup which allowed for late braking and aggressive acceleration. Moreover, for the fine-tuning of the Ypsilon Rally4 HF, the Italian brand looked to Miki Biasion, a true motorsports legend who, between the 80s and 90s, became inextricably linked to Lancia and went on to become the most successful Italian driver in history.
Lastly, it should be noted that Lancia’s return to rally is part of a broader industrial and cultural plan, leveraging motorsport as a strategic laboratory for technical innovation, the development of young talent, and the reinforcement of the brand’s identity. The relaunch of the historic HF logo also fits within this context. Always a symbol of Lancia’s boldest vehicles, it is back and ready to take a central role in the brand’s vision of the future. Indeed, HF will become the defining feature of all the high-performance versions within the new Lancia lineup, starting with the brand-new 280-hp Ypsilon HF and the Ypsilon HF Line Hybrid. The former is the full-electric, high performance road version that accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds and delivers superior agility thanks to its limited-slip differential. Meanwhile, the latter brings the HF language to more affordable powertrains while preserving the legendary line’s style and recognizability. The two new releases are already available for order: the Ypsilon HF Line is now in showrooms, while the 280-hp Ypsilon HF will make its debut on roads after the summer.
Ypsilon HF Racing: authentic, safe, and race ready
The Ypsilon HF Racing is the entry level of the rally pyramid for young drivers—featuring low costs, simplified regulations, and vehicles derived from series productions.
To meet the category’s technical requirements, the new vehicle is equipped with a 3-cylinder 1.2-liter turbo engine delivering 145 hp and 240 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission featuring short gear ratios and a mechanical differential designed to guarantee dynamism and responsiveness. The chassis body—the same one used on the Ypsilon Rally 4 HF—is extremely safe given its level of performance and is compliant with FIA regulations. Equipped with a homologated rollbar and safety systems that meet international standards, safety is one of its strong suits. The cockpit, the dashboard, and the suspension design are the same ones used on Ypsilon Rally4 HF, ensuring the driver an authentic and professional experience from first use. To guarantee braking performance in all conditions, it is equipped with 302-mm front brakes, 290-mm rear brakes, and a mechanical handbrake. The entire development process was aimed at creating an agile, high-performance vehicle packed with technical features, but with extremely low operating costs.
The new Ypsilon HF Racing was established to support the training and refinement of rally driving techniques, serving as a solid starting point for drivers at the beginning of their careers. Created in collaboration with expert rally drivers and subject to rigorous dynamic testing, the vehicle embodies the brand’s core values: dynamism, accessibility, and driving pleasure. With a price of €38,900 (excluding VAT) and a “race-ready” setup, it is aimed at a large and diverse market to help create an inclusive and progressive motorsports culture. The new model can already be ordered at the Stellantis Motorsport Racing Shop, with the first deliveries commencing after summer.
