  • The historic version of the oldest world road rally will take place in Turin on January 25-26.
  • Lancia will be at the start of the race in Piazza San Carlo with the Rally 037, celebrating this year the 40th anniversary of its victory at the Monte Carlo Rally.
  • One of the symbols of the brand’s “brutal” soul, the Lancia Rally 037 entails Lancia sporty spirit and its design elements inspired the Lancia Pu+Ra Zero, the three-dimensional manifesto presented on November 28th at the Lancia Design Day.

“We are proud to take part in this world-famous historic race and display our Lancia Rally 037. It is an extraordinary racing vehicle which, together with Stratos and Delta, made of Lancia the most successful brand in the history of Rally. These brutal and efficient racing cars have become part of the collective imagination, with many fans all over the world, and inspired us in the creation of Lancia design language of the future,” stated Luca Napolitano, Lancia brand CEO.

After a seven-year, the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique returns to Turin. This historic version of the oldest world road rally is reserved for classic cars which participated in at least one Monte Carlo Rally before 1983. This year, in its 25th edition, the competition includes starting points in five different cities—Oslo, London, Bad Homburg, Reims, and Turin, while the competition will take place in Monaco from January 27th to February 1st, with the participation of 19 privately-owned classic Lancia race cars.
The rally will start from Piazza San Carlo, where all crews will depart and the public will have a chance to admire iconic cars which made the history of Motorsport. The event is organized by the Automobile Club Torino, in collaboration with the Monaco Automobile Club and is sponsored by the City of Turin and the Region of Piemonte.

The iconic Lancia Rally 037, which exactly forty years ago won both the Monte Carlo and the World Rally, is part of the historic Stellantis collection and on display at the Heritage HUB in Turin, will be present at the Lancia stand at the start of the event.
Based on the Beta Montecarlo, the Lancia Rally 037 was not designed to be produced in large numbers, as the road model was strictly needed to enter into the world of Rally. The road version officially debuted at the 1982 Turin Motor Show. The following year, the Rally 037 dominated the World Championship from its first race, that was the Monte Carlo Rally, with Walter Röhrl. At the end of the season, despite strong competition from the new all-wheel-drive Audi Quattro, Lancia won the World Constructors’ Championship and placed second in the Drivers’ World Championship and the European and Italian Championships.

Featured with “functional” and sharp forms, both in the front and in the rear, the Lancia Rally 037, better known with its project code “037”, is a pure sporty car which embodies the  famous victory of David against Goliath. The Lancia Rally 037 was the last two-wheel-drive vehicle to win the World Rally Championship in 1983, against more powerful and, most impressively, all-wheel-drive competitors. Its original hybrid, monocoque, and tubular structure was created by the Pininfarina workshop, which developed an aggressive and elegant body able to portray a significant aerodynamic load to the ground. To reach maximum efficiency, it was made in polyester with fiberglass reinforcements and the bonnet and boot lid could be detached very quickly. The minimalist and rational interiors were essential for competitions. Plus, it had a few aerodynamic “adds on”, including an eye-catching rear spoiler, which made it even more impressive.
