Lancia is main sponsor of the “Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates” at Hiroshima
For years, Lancia has been following a path which has led the brand into the world of social issues and associated sponsorship. This is demonstrated by support for “Mandela Day” and the creation of the Richard Gere commercial about Tibet and the web site “Your Face For Freedom”, dedicated to these issues.
For years, Lancia has been following a path which has led the brand into the world of social issues and associated sponsorship. This is demonstrated by support for “Mandela Day” and the creation of the Richard Gere commercial about Tibet and the web site “Your Face For Freedom”, dedicated to these issues.
Furthermore, for the third year running, Lancia is main sponsor of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. After Paris (2008) and Berlin (2009, on the occasion of the celebrations for twenty years from the fall of the wall), this year the eleventh edition of the Summit will take place from 12 to 14 November at Hiroshima to remember the 65th anniversary of the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan. Taking their cue from precisely this tragic event, the Nobel Peace Laureates will consider the delicate issue of nuclear arms and disarmament.
Many key international figures engaged in the struggle to attain the disarmament of major world powers will be present at the event in Japan. Among these will be Nobel Laureates Mikhail Gorbachev, Frederik Willem De Klerk, Lech Walesa and the Dalai Lama. In addition to many guest of honour and Japanese institutions, the footballer Roberto Baggio will be named peace personality 2010.
Also, like last year, Lancia has made a film to give a voice to the cause of Aung San Suu Kyi, Nobel Peace Laureate in 1991, interpreting the collective desire to knock down the “walls of her prison”. The world premiere of the film will be projected during the plenary session which closes the Summit, to be broadcast subsequently by various international television networks. The Dalai Lama is making an extraordinary contribution this year to the project and to the film, which ends with a message of hope.
Finally, Lancia also launched the “Your Face For Freedom” initiative, which supported the campaign to release the Burmese Nobel Laureate last year, through the Facebook social networking site. Until 10 December 2009 (date of the official Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony), participants were able to replace their Facebook profile picture with the “Aung San Suu Kyi Free Now” image. The initiative can be seen at YourFaceForFreedom.org where all replaced Facebook profile pictures have been published on the Wall For Freedom.
