The creation of a better world, to make it more innovative, safer, more sustainable and more beautiful. This is how Lancia imagines a future where technology can go hand in hand with respect for the environment and where beauty is the fulcrum of change. This is also the idea behind the mom ambassadors of the new Lancia Ypsilon Hybrid: three women who came together after trying out the brand’s fashion city car to talk about cars, style, sustainability and technology. They become the stars of a video talk made to celebrate Mothers’ Day.


The video is available on YouTube here and will soon be uploaded to the brand’s Instagram and Facebook pages.


“As well as a tribute to all mothers,” said Luca Napolitano, Lancia Chief Executive Officer, “we also wanted to celebrate their passion for cars. More and more women are working in the automotive world, attending classic car rallies and finding themselves explaining how technology has made it easier for them to be mothers and women at the steering wheel. Just think of the infotainment system in the new Lancia Ypsilon, so you can always stay connected, in complete safety, to listen to music or send messages. Or think of the need to offer your children a better future. With the new Ypsilon, the focus on sustainability starts inside the passenger compartment, with the use of SEAQUAL® YARN, a sustainable material produced by recycling plastics collected from the Mediterranean. A greener future clearly requires low-consumption cars that pollute less, like the Ypsilon Hybrid EcoChic, designed for considerable savings on entry into restricted traffic zones in Italy's cities.”


Valentina Casanova, Product Development Global Fuel Design Responsible at Stellantis; Monica Mailander Macaluso, a collector of vintage cars; and Ilaria Brugnotti, an automotive journalist: these are the three mothers Lancia approached to be ambassadors for the new Ypsilon Hybrid, specifically for their close links with the world of cars, in both their personal and professional lives.
In typical Lancia style, Valentina, Monica and Ilaria met at the Centro Stile for a girly chat focused on their experiences at the wheel of the new Ypsilon.


The 3 moms noted that buying an Ypsilon is a choice, and the fact that it is no coincidence that, in its 35-year history, Lancia has won over the hearts of women, 62% of its customer base in Italy. It has done so with its distinctive, seductive look, made even more contemporary by the return of the vertical grille, a revisited stylistic canon from the Lancia cars of the past. Another factor is the chevron motif on the seats, upholstered in SEAQUAL® YARN. 


Ilaria, Monica and Valentina explained how being a motorist – just like being a mom – is a profession that must be learned by practice. The important thing is education about safety in and out of the car, teaching respect, but also passing on to our children the concept of the car as a symbol of freedom, independence and self-confidence. Like a dress to be put on or a house to be furnished, a car is an expression of individuality and identity.


All the market research states that women are more attentive to the stylistic details and accessories featuring in their cars, and which make them stand out. With sales of 3 million models, the Lancia Ypsilon acts as living proof: its sensual, sleek, feminine lines, its timeless style – just like the great objects of design that will never go out of fashion – continue to enchant, together with that all-Italian elegance.


The backdrop for the “3 Moms, 1 Ypsilon” video consists of two cars that recount the brand's past and present: on one side, a Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider, an unforgettable icon of Italian car design, rightly considered one of the best open-top cars ever made and included as a testament to Lancia’s 115 years of history. Alongside it stands the Ypsilon Hybrid EcoChic, the hybrid the Lancia way, fitted with a 3-cylinder 1-liter FireFly gasoline engine running at 70 hp (51.5 kW), paired with a 12-volt Belt-integrated Starter Generator (BSG) electric motor and lithium battery. Consumption and CO2 emissions are therefore lower than its gasoline engine counterpart, as well as purchasers getting access to the tax and traffic incentives for hybrid vehicles, depending on local regulations.


Since launch, almost 30,000 units have been sold: another step towards a better and more sustainable future.
