On the occasion of Italian Republic Day, the Lancia Flaminia Presidenziale accompanied, as per tradition, President Sergio Mattarella during the opening of the military parade. Its presence renews every year the bond between Lancia and Italian institutions, through a car that for more than 60 years has represented style, balance and authority.

Since 1961, the Lancia Flaminia Presidenziale has been the historic official car of the Quirinale. Over time, it has become a true ambassador of Italian elegance during the country’s most solemn institutional occasions, from Republic Day on 2 June to the inauguration of the President at the Quirinale. It has also accompanied heads of state, sovereigns and international figures during official visits to Italy, including Queen Elizabeth II of England, John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Charles De Gaulle.

Presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1957 and equipped with a 2.5-litre V6 engine, the Lancia Flaminia was created to take on the legacy of the Lancia Aurelia. It soon became one of the finest expressions of Lancia’s ability to combine technical innovation, formal elegance and Italian automotive culture. Among the special versions created, the most famous is the “335”, produced in 1961 by Pinin Farina: a long-wheelbase convertible whose name referred to the wheelbase measurement in centimetres, chosen by the then President of the Republic Giovanni Gronchi as his official representative car.

4 examples were produced and, following a long-standing tradition, each was given the name of a thoroughbred horse from the Quirinale stables: Belfiore, Belmonte, Belvedere and Belsito. Painted in the distinctive Blu Notte colour, all the cars feature black Connolly leather upholstery, an intercom to communicate with the driver, 5 rear seats with a large sofa and 2 folding seats. Restored in 2001, 2 examples are currently entrusted to the Quirinale stables: Belfiore and Belvedere. Belsito is preserved at the Military Motorization Historical Museum in Rome, while Belmonte has been on display since 2001 at the National Automobile Museum in Turin.

The Lancia Flaminia Presidenziale is also one of the 9 models that have inspired the design of Lancia’s future cars. Its harmonious proportions, sleek line and fluid volumes still convey today an idea of essential, never ostentatious elegance, capable of standing the test of time and speaking to the present.

In this journey, the New Lancia Gamma represents a new expression of the Lancia tradition: not simply a reference to the past, but the continuation of a way of conceiving the automobile based on balance, elegance, innovation and the ability to represent Italy around the world.

Designed, engineered and developed in Italy, the New Gamma marks a new step in the evolution of the brand. It is produced at the Stellantis plant in Melfi, one of the Group’s most advanced facilities and a benchmark for industrial expertise, technology and production quality.

Production in Melfi is a central element of the project: a model designed for the European market, made in Italy and created to showcase industrial expertise, advanced technology and Made in Italy excellence. The New Gamma ideally carries forward the cultural legacy of the Flaminia and of the great Lancia cars of the past, translating it into a contemporary language, in line with new mobility needs and with the brand’s path of evolution.
