The Fiat Punto16v at the 29th Barcelona Motor Show

A European success story, international debut

Fiat offers visitors a chance to see a great international news story live: the new, powerful and flexible Fire 1.2 16v engine fitted to three versions of the new Fiat Punto range. This engine is capable of maximum power and performance on a par with that offered by the outgoing 90 version, but with a lower capacity. The Fiat Punto 85 16v ELX, for example, offers 86 bhp and reaches 177 km/h top speed.
This new power unit also ensures better acceleration than the outgoing engine (-0.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and -0.3 seconds to cover a kilometre from a standing start) and lower fuel consumption: an average of 1.2 litres less.
The Fiat Punto Sporting 16v is also fitted with the same 1.2 16v unit, plus a standard equipment package consisting of suspension, tyres and alloy wheels designed to ensure a sporty drive. This version is capable of the best acceleration figures: 10.5 seconds to speed from 0 to 100 km/h and 32.6 seconds to cover a kilometre from a standing start.
Other changes have been made to the rest of the Fiat Punto range. Eight new body colours have been added to match the new interior cloth trim.
The Fiat Punto was the biggest selling car in its segment last year and has been more in demand than any other car during the first quarter of this year. It owes its success to attributes such as outstanding versatility (it can be used round town or on long trips) and a high level of active and passive safety.
