PUNCTURES HOLD UP THE FIAT ABARTH DRIVERS AT THE ITALY-SARDINIA RALLY

The first leg of the Italy-Sardinia Rally was run today (Friday, April 29); it is the fifth event in the World Rally Championship, and the third valid for the Junior World Championship in which two official Fiat Punto Abarths, driven by Mirco Baldacci-Giovanni Bernacchini and Luca Cecchettini-Massimo Daddoveri, are competing. The two Fiat Abarth teams were held up by punctures in the first speed trial of the day, and after 6 trials, they are now in eighth and ninth places respectively. The provisional leader of the Junior race is Katajamaki of Finland in a Suzuki. The punctures forced the two Fiat drivers to change tyres during the long special speed trial (29 km), and this set Baldacci back 4 minutes, and Cecchettini 6 minutes. The second leg of the rally will be run tomorrow, Saturday, April 30, and will include 5 special speed trials. Departure from Olbia at 8 am and arrival at 6.42 pm.
