The week of celebrations for the anniversary of the “Laudato Si’” encyclical will culminate in the “1 Health 4 All” event, promoted by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. The aim of the event is to stimulate a profound reflection on the connections between global health, development and integrated ecology.

As part of “Laudato Si’ Week 2021”, the week of celebrations dedicated to the encyclical published by Pope Francis on May 24th, 2015, Fiat has been invited to take part in the “1 Health 4 All” event. Hosted by the Vatican COVID-19 Commission, part of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, the event led by Cardinal Peter K.A. Turkson is scheduled to take place in the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, Aquileia on May 19th.

“Laudato Si’ 2021 Week” (May 16th to 25th) represents the culmination of the Laudato Si’ Special Anniversary Year, which has focused on the progress made by the Church in terms of ecological conversion.

In his speech (link), Olivier François – CEO of the Fiat Brand – testified to the brand's commitment to the values of ecology and sustainability promoted in the encyclical. François stated: “Fiat believes deeply in the vision, values and objectives promoted and supported by the “Laudato Si’” encyclical: to create a better world for future generations. We gladly accept the invitation to work together toward this common goal. Pope Francis’ encyclical is a call to action, so it is our duty – but also an opportunity for automakers like us – to make a major change. The Church reminds us that a true icon always has a cause. 500 is an icon of the Fiat brand and, if it is true that a car can have a symbolic meaning, it is our duty to use it to promote an ideal, and to promote change.”

The new, full-electric, 500 can be seen as a major social project, established with the aim of pointing the way to a better world for future generations. It has to inspire 100% of customers to make a leap into the future by offering new mobility solutions in pure Italian style: simple, beautiful, and with a positive impact on society.

“Italy has a special talent for putting beauty at the service of higher values,” Olivier François added. “Beauty has been a positive driving force throughout history: take the Renaissance for example. Today we have the opportunity to create a new Renaissance – industrial, ecological, ethical and social – to build a better world, and of course to keep it moving. I would like to thank Cardinal Peter K.A. Turkson for giving us the opportunity to take part in this major event, and to work together as we go forward.”

Maestro Claudio Mansutti will be the conductor of the “1 Health 4 All” event, which will witness the participation of many major figures. There will be a message from Holy Father himself, as well as contributions from leaders in the fields of politics, health, finance and the environment. Nobel laureates and international actors, activists and artists will also take part. The event will culminate in the refurbishment of Rumbek Hospital in South Sudan, led by the Italian NGO Doctors with Africa CUAMM.
