Cinquecento at the 57th Frankfurt International Motor Show
Two Fiat Cinquecentos are on display at the 57th Frankfurt Motor Show: the SX,
an elegant and complete version with an 899 cc engine, and the Sporting, with an 1108 cc FIRE engine that takes this brilliant city car to a top speed of 150 km/h.
The sporting character of this, the latest version of the Cinquecento, is emphasised by various Abarth accessories fitted on the vehicle: an air dam on the front bumper with built in fog lights, sideskirts, a tailgate spoiler, aerodynamic rib on the rear bumper, alloy wheels, sports steering wheel and pedals, exhaust trim, lowered springs and customised mats.
The Fiat Cinquecento range comprises six versions in Italy with 899 cc and FIRE 1108 engines: these include the recent Fiat Cinquecento Young (presented in mid-January), the Soleil (with canvas sunroof) and the Suite, fitted with air conditioning as standard.
A Fiat Cinquecento that's taking part in the German promotional rally, identical to those that will be taking place in Italy and throughout Europe, can be seen on a special plinth.
The biggest selling car in Europe is present at Frankfurt in 3 saloon versions and a Cabrio convertible. The consolidated outright leader in the continental sales lists both in its segment and overall, the Fiat Punto has been available in a new range since the Spring, with a new 16-valve FIRE 1.2 engine standing out for its power and flexibility. This is the engine which powers the Punto Sporting on display in a version enhanced by Abarth accessories.
Also present on the stand you'll find the Punto 75 SX, 60 SX and Cabrio ELX.
The '97 Punto range offers, among other things, eight new body colours, interiors with unusual fittings and fabrics which are different for each version or body type (3 and 5 doors) and the addition of many extras such as power steering (optional on the 60 S and SX) which are now standard for all the diesel and petrol models from the 75 SX up.
Fifteen Punto versions are available in Italy with three main equipment levels: S, SX and ELX, joined by the 6 Speed, Selecta, Sporting and GT versions. The engines offered comprise petrol models ranging from the FIRE 1.1 on the Punto 55 through to the turbocharged 1.4 on the Punto GT. The turbodiesel comes in one size only - 1700 cc, while the Cabrio offers a choice of the 1.2 SPI and 1.2 16v with S and ELX equipment levels.
