Barchetta at the 29th Barcelona Motor Show

An aggressive-looking, compact exterior and a surprisingly generous amount of interior space with four comfortable seats easily able to accommodate four adults: these are the Fiat Coupé’s winning cards. The engine range has been recently revised. The exterior design has undergone a few changes, the colour range has been extended and the car offers new interior equipment.
The 220 bhp offered by the engine fitted to the new Fiat Coupé 2.0 20v Turbo on view at the Barcelona Motor Show makes it the most powerful unit in the 1997 range. A top speed of 250 km/h also makes this the fastest production car that Fiat has ever made.
The model tops the two litre category in terms of performance, power and torque. The other two engines in the range are a 147 bhp 2.0 20v engine and a 130 bhp 1.8 16v unit.
The Fiat barchetta is a contemporary reinterpretation of the glamorous soft-top tradition of a bygone age. Certain details have an agreeable retro flavour: podded headlamps, bar-shaped door handles recessed in the sides and geometric wheel trim. The engine is state-of-the-art: a 1747 cc, 4 cylinder 16-valve unit, with variable valve timing capable of a maximum power output of 130 bhp at 6000 rpm.
This car is capable of 200 km/h top speed and accelerates to 100 km/h in just 8.9 seconds from a standing start.
The Fiat barchetta combines this exuberant performance with great reliability and low maintenance requirements.
