Fiat hosts student participants in Formula SAE Italy
An important area of Fiat’s training activities is targeted at university students who have an interest in working in the auto sector and identifying candidates with the greatest potential for employment. Last year, Fiat hired more than 100 newly graduated engineers to work in its vehicle, engine and transmission research and development area. So far this year, more than 40 have already been selected or are in the final stages of the selection process.

In collaboration with ATA (Associazione Tecnica dell’Automobile), Fiat today hosted around 100 students from the Italian teams participating in the 10th edition of Formula SAE Italy. Thousands of university students take part in the ATA-sponsored competition every year. This year’s event will take place at the Varano dè Melegari Circuit in Parma, Italy from August 29th to September 1st. Students are challenged to work as a team to design, build and market a prototype gasoline or electric-powered race car that will be tested and judged by a panel of experts from the automotive world.
The objective of the “Face2Face with Fiat” event hosted by Fiat at its Orbassano facility and attended by Alfredo Altavilla, Chief Operating Officer for Fiat-Chrysler’s EMEA region, was to make technicians and facilities in every area from design to engines freely available to students who are developing a race car for the SAE event. The program included technical workshops, on-track testing and guided tours of the wind tunnel and safety center.
The 84 teams registered to compete in this year’s Formula SAE Italy come from 22 nations, including Italy and other countries in the European Union, Canada, Egypt, Estonia, India, Israel, Malta, Russia and Turkey. Italian teams come from the Universities of Brescia, Calabria, Padova, Parma, Perugia, Salento, Pisa, Roma La Sapienza, Roma Tor Vergata, Marche Polytechnic and Milan and Turin Polytechnics. More than 2,000 engineering students and recent graduates are expected to attend the event at Varano dè Melegari.
