The first race of the Berlin E-Prix got underway today on the historic Berlin Tempelhof airport. After an epic qualifying, both DS TECHEETAH drivers started from the front of the grid with Antonio Felix Da Costa in 3rd and Jean-Eric Vergne 4th.

The DS Techeetah drivers both made a great start maintaining their positions near the front. After battling hard with his competitors, Jean-Eric Vergne managed to gain positions to reach the chequered flag in the second position. This is the 4th podium for the French driver that also scores precious points in the drivers’ championship. JEV stands 2nd with 93 points, only 3 points behind the leader.

Antonio Felix Da Costa started the race in 4th position and had a strong race fighting to keep his position. But due to an external element, the Portuguese driver lost a few places and finished the 45 minutes plus one lap race in 8th position. The 4 points scored allowed him to stay 10th in the Drivers’ Championship.

With 22 points scored today, DS TECHEETAH stays second in the Team Championship standings with 127 points.

Tomorrow, the second race of the Berlin E-Prix will take place on a reversed lay out of the track and DS TECHEETAH will be looking for a victory.

Thomas Chevaucher, DS Performance Director and DS TECHEETAH Team Principal:

“JEV captured his 4th podium of the season which also marks the 41st podium for DS Automobiles in 80 races, since its debut in Formula E. I’m really proud of the consistency of the team and thanks to the points scored by JEV and Antonio we are still at the top of the Championship. We are aiming for a victory and we still have tomorrow to win a race here in Berlin!”

Mark Preston, TECHEETAH CEO:

““We started well with another great qualifying from both drivers putting them in a perfect position for the race on the second row of the grid. Another exciting race ensued where both drivers fought throughout with JEV ending second and taking a great haul of points. Antonio raced well, also running at the front until a final lap caused him to drop to 8th position in the final seconds.”

Jean-Éric Vergne, Formula E champion in 2018 and 2019:

“It was an eventful race, a lot of things happened. We had a strong pace today and I’m happy with second. Obviously, I tried to overtake Eduardo (Mortara) but he saw me coming so I could not overtake. I hope that a win is coming soon, our car is really good, we are strong at every race and I hope that very soon we will be at the front.”

Antonio Felix da Costa, Formula E champion in 2020:

“We had a good race, the car is fast, we qualified well and raced well for most of the race. Unfortunately a plastic element slowed me down and I lost some places. It feels that I’m now paddling hard against a strong current but I have been here before and I will come out of it stronger.”
