On February 12th, the ABB FIA Formula E Championship was finally back in Mexico City at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and its famous Foro Sol. It’s under a cloudy sky that Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix Da Costa started the race from the 4th and 5th place on the grid at the wheel of their DS E-TENSE FE21.

After battling for 45 minutes against strong competitors going from 4th to 2nd, Jean-Eric Vergne finished at the 3rd position showing great performance and offering to the team some precious points in the Team and Drivers classifications.

Right behind Jean-Eric Vergne, is Antonio Felix Da Costa and it’s DS E-TENSE FE21. Antonio had some strong fights all race long and was back in the pace after the first two rounds in Diriyah. With this 4th place, the Portuguese driver scored 12 points, his first ones of the season.

Round 4 and 5 of Season 8 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will take place on the 9th and 10th of April in Rome.

Thomas Chevaucher, DS Performance Director and DS TECHEETAH Team Principal:

“The circuit in Mexico has the reputation of creating tough conditions in terms of energy management and this year was no exception. We were fast and had a great strategy that enabled us to handle the end of the race! The team bounced back after the difficulties we had in Diriyah and that’s what makes champions! We have scored some important points in both classifications, and we are looking forward to the Rome E-Prix.”

Mark Preston, TECHEETAH CEO:

“What an exciting race, it truly shows how thrilling Formula E can be. We had the pace all day but I think most importantly we used the best possible strategy to bring JEV home in a fantastic 3rd place and Antonio in a strong 4th to bring us such valuable points.”

Jean-Éric Vergne, Formula E champion in 2018 and 2019:

It was a really interesting race with the different strategies with our competitors. I think that our team did a great call in changing my strategy to be able to finish 40 laps instead of 39. I lost some places at first but I was able to win them back at the end. I think today we were the second best team and we will keep working to be the best team. We improved a lot since Riyadh and the goal is to score points at all the races or even win podiums if we can. Now we go home, hungry for more victories.”

António Félix da Costa, Formula E champion in 2020:

“Very happy with this, I think as a team it's a super strong result. 3rd and 4th, great points. Obviously, the winners were a little bit too quick for everyone today so we have to take this one home, and I accomplished exactly what I wanted out of this weekend, which was come here, execute a strong day, score some points and really start our championship. We did exactly what I had in mind so I'm very pleased. We have a month and a half before Rome, it puts us in a good position to keep working hard.”
