WORLD TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP FOUR ALFA ROMEO 156 COMPETE IN MEXICO

This weekend the World Touring Car Champion goes overseas for the first time, when the fifth event in the season will be held on the Mexican circuit of Puebla. The four Alfa Romeo 156’s from the Alfa Romeo Racing Team will all be at the start, driven by Italians Gabriele Tarquini and Fabrizio Giovanardi, Brazilian Augusto Farfus and Briton James Thompson.

Three of the official Alfa Romeo drivers have already scored wins this season: Thompson at Monza, Tarquini at Silverstone and Giovanardi at Imola. Tarquini is in third place in the rankings, while Giovanardi and Farfus are fourth and fifth, with the same score.

At Puebla, all the Alfa Romeo drivers will race with the ballast imposed by the regulations for the drivers who lead the rankings and have obtained the best results in the previous race. As a result, Giovanardi, who scored the highest number of points in the two races at Imola, will carry an extra 50 kg, while Farfus will carry 40, Tarquini 35 and Thompson 10.

The Puebla circuit is at an altitude of 2300 metres, and is little more than 3000 metres long; it was created from an earlier oval circuit, and retains part of that course, with a number of fast, wide corners.

The weekend’s programme envisages two free half-hour practice sessions on Saturday morning June 25 (at 9 am and 11.30 am), followed by the qualifying session from 2.50 to 3.20 pm. The two races will be held on Sunday, at 1 05 pm and 2.15 pm local time. Italy is seven hours ahead, and by Italian time the two races will be held respectively at 8.05 pm and 9.15 pm.
