The international jury for the 29th ADI Compasso d'Oro Awards has bestowed upon the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale the Honorable Mention in the “Design for Mobility” category. The acknowledgment – one of the most prestigious in the world in the field of industrial design – was conferred as part of the awards ceremony held on May 22 at the ADI Design Museum in Milan.
Created as a tribute to the legendary 1967 33 Stradale by Franco Scaglione, the new car reinterprets its essence with the tools of the present. The exterior epitomizes “necessary beauty” and features a perfect balance between proportions, volumes, and processing of the surfaces. Similarly, the interior is characterized by a minimalist design and materials conceived to emphasize the driving experience.
An authentic masterpiece of Italian ingenuity, the Biscione-brand supercar is made in only 33 exclusive units and combines the brand’s heritage and future. It is produced according to a unique artisanal process with the highest quality standards and obsessive attention to detail, partly made possible by the collaboration with Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, which left its mark on some of the most beautiful Alfa Romeos of all time and now plays a leading role in the production of the new 33 Stradale.
A perfect synthesis of tradition and innovation, the new 33 Stradale embodies the manifesto of possibilities for BOTTEGAFUORISERIE: a unique car, tailor-made through a direct dialogue with the customer that epitomizes design, performance, and emotion.
This is far from the first time an Alfa Romeo has won an award from the Association for Industrial Design: in 2018, the Giulia received the 25th Compasso d'Oro, with a citation lauding the designers’ ability to embody the value of an outstanding product and to mark the renaissance of a brand crucial to the history of Italian industry. Earlier, in 2004 the Brera received the award as “one of the most beautiful and fascinating cars ever made.” Finally, in 2014 the Giulietta took the Honorable Mention at the 23rd Compasso d'Oro, completing a record trophy haul for Alfa Romeo.
Established in 1954, the ADI Compasso d'Oro is the oldest but above all the most authoritative design award in the world. Created based on an idea of Gio Ponti’s, since 1958 it has been organized and curated by ADI. The ADI Permanent Design Observatory – a committee of designers, critics, historians, and specialist journalists – selects and evaluates the best products, which are then published in the ADI Design Index yearbooks.
The projects that have received the Compasso d’Oro over the course of more than 70 years are kept in the Historical Collection of the ADI Compasso d'Oro Award, on display at the ADI Design Museum in Milan, the Ministry of Culture having declared the collection to be national heritage “of exceptional artistic and historical interest” in 2004.
