The young Italian Alex Campani, on Abarth 695 Assetto Corse, won the first race at Monza - the last round of the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe and Trofeo Selenia Abarth Italy, ahead of the Swedish competitor Niklas Lilja. The withdrawal of Luca Anselmi (went out of the track), the series leader before the start, allows Campani to bring in the top of the ranking in the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe. And he follows Anselmi with just one point of difference in the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Italy.
The race that is scheduled for tomorrow at 2.20pm (live TV on Sky Sport 2) will therefore be decisive for the allocation of the two championships. In the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe can point to the success Campani and Anselmi, with the first one leading with 8 points of benefit. The Trofeo Abarth Selenia Italy is still open to 4 young drivers, whose Anselmi precedes by one length Campani in the ranking, by 5 points Scalvini and 12 points Jonathan Giacon.
Exciting and spectacular the first race. At the green light Alex Campani started very good, while both Scalvini and Anselmi could overtake Lilja, that has been passed at the end of lap 1 also by Giacon.
On the second lap Anselmi exceeded Scalvini and carried in the second position, but soon Scalvini regain his position, Anselmi reacted and took the lead on the 4th lap, in front of Campani. Scalvini, author of a spin, slid to the rear. The duel between Campani and Anselmi grew more and more, with continuous exchanges of position until lap 7, when Anselmi went off the track to the parabolic curve and restart from the 5th place. While the duel for victory saw close fight by Campani and Giacon, Anselmi's car was out of order at the Variante Ascari after an accident and he must park his Abarth far from the track. In the final part reported behind the first Swedish Lilja, while Giacon, author of the best lap time, was forced to stop. The race ended with Campani 1st, Lilja 2nd and "Gioga" 3rd.
Great performance for the six debutants of the "Make It Your Race" TV talent, that involved in this second edition more than 50,000 aspiring pilots, representing Italy, France, Germany, Benelux, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Austria.
