The Scorpion leaves its mark on 2021 with a record-breaking season

  • Eighty-four special stages and 1162.07 km covered by the Abarth 124 rally in the Abarth Rally Cup are the reward for Dariusz Poloński, on the final podium in ERC2 with wins in 7 SSs
  • In the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth, 44 drivers of 19 different nationalities competed in the 21 races that saw Oliver Bearman crowned Italian Champion.
  • In the ADAC F4 powered by Abarth, 7 different winners and 12 drivers on the podium in 18 races.

The numbers never lie and Abarth’s in the 2021 season are record-breaking ones. The Scorpion’s racing soul continues to reap successes both in rallies and on the track, thanks to the Abarth 124 rally, now the backbone of the RGT cars in the international rallying landscape. Its successes are also thanks to the 160-hp Abarth 1.4 T-Jet engine, the beating heart of the Formula 4 single-seaters that are developing the best talents of open-wheel motorsport.

In the third season of the Abarth Rally Cup, part of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) calendar, the Scorpion car was put to the test by the big names in the Abarth series. Dariusz Poloński was crowned champion courtesy of 5 victories out of 6 rallies run, having demonstrated his dominance with victory in 72 special stages out of 84. Third overall in ERC2, the Polish driver also won 2 podiums in ERC2 at the Rally di Roma Capitale and Barum Czech Rally Zlín rounds. During the 2021 season, the Abarth 124 rally completed 24 special stages on gravel, covering 381.78 km, and 60 on tarmac with 780.29 km. In the six rounds of the European series, a total of 1162.07 km was covered in the special stages. The total becomes 4600.39 km if we include the transfers between the various stages, which visited Poland, Latvia, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Spain.

Record numbers in the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth certified by FIA too, with 44 drivers who took part in at least one race in the Italian series promoted by ACI Sport, and an average of 32 drivers on the starting grid. Nineteen nationalities were represented with drivers from all 5 continents. During the 2021 season, in the 21 races split into 7 rounds, as many as 12 riders were on the podium, with 7 of them taking at least one victory. Reliability and performance accompanied the young talents of motorsport thanks to the support of the 160-hp Abarth T-Jet 1.4 engine. Once again, it was proved to deliver top performance in its eighth season alongside the Italian series, covering 348 laps in races totaling 1686.138 km.

However, it was the seventh season for the ADAC F4 Championship powered by Abarth where, in the 18 races out of 6 rounds held, 1346.400 km were covered in 325 laps. Five circuits hosted the German series with 29 drivers of 16 different nationalities starting at least one race. Also in the series promoted by ADAC, there were 12 riders on the podium during the season with 7 of them taking at least one victory. As in the Italian series, Oliver Bearman was also crowned champion in its German counterpart.  The Briton driving for Van Amersfoort Racing – now a new trainee at the Ferrari Driver Academy – ended his season with 17 victories (11 in Italian F.4, 6 in ADAC F4), 6 second places (2 in Italy and 4 in Germany), and 3 third places (2 in Italy and 1 in Germany), taking to the podium in 26 races out of 39 run. A very similar route was taken among the rookies by Russia’s Nikita Bedrin, the winner of the title reserved for new starters in both Italy and Germany, again in the Van Amersfoort Racing team’s car that was crowned champion in both series.
